Your 3.5" Floppy Drive

Do you still have one?

I recently bought another HDD (320GB internal), and want to put it in my main box, but I don't have a spare slot (3.5" or 5 1/4"). I don't really use my 3.5" floppy drive, so I'm wondering if I can get by with removing it.

Thoughts?

Well, my thoughts are that CD/DVD media is dirt cheap. I haven't had one for over a couple years...

I don't have one installed on my pc. With the low cost of high capacity USB drives the trend is to use that and not even bother with a floppy drive anymore.

I have an external one just to read old file sthat my wife has on disk (she has some of her old papers and research that she's using to complete her dissertation on floppies). Besides that, we haven't used a floopy drive in a couple of years.

I have an external one for $15. It connects via USB. I use it one or twice a year. I use mainly a USB memory card. A lot easier.

If you have a home network, you could just share the floppy on another computer with your network. I use to do that before I got the external.

I don't store anything on floppies any more. I only use it when I'm dealing with older computer systems such as for boot disks. A lot of stuff anymore is just too big to use those floppies.

I would say just ditch the thing. If you do use floppies on occasions, look for a cheap external USB floppy drive. The $15 I spent was money well spent for those few occasions I do use it.

Yeah, I guess if I ever "needed" it again for booting, I could just pop it back in the box. No biggie.
