Surfing the Net on a widescreen LCD

I finally unboxed and connected the Westinghouse LCM-22W3 22" widescreen LCD that my wife picked up on Black Friday. long story; she changed her mind about giving it to me, so it's been sitting in her closet since that time, and I've been too busy to deal with her complaining after I opened it, blah blah blah... She got the thing from Target for like $170 and it's retailing these days for close to $275.

Anyway, it's a sweet monitor! I picked up a DVI-D cable from CompUSA last night (only $10 since they're going out of business!), too. I love the widescreen, but I'm thinking I shouldn't be using full screen when surfing, since most websites are designed for either 600x800 or 1024x768 resolution (or something like that.) This resolution is 1680x1050. Some sites (Gmail, for instance) adjust for the window, but that spreads out the distance between columns, and it's frankly too much. So, what are you guys doing for this? Just running multiple windows side-by-side?

I have a dell laptop that runs at 1440 x 900 and a 14" screen. I just use one window, but usually have several tabs opened in IE7. My gmail account looks fine to me. I enjoy the resolution and screen size I have b/c I can fit quite a bit on my screen. My laptop is running Vista, so the widescreen is perfect for sidebar gadgets on the right side.

I know jack-shit about resolutions. My Sammy has a "Auto-Tune" feature that synced it up with my PC.

I have a 20" widescreen Dell LCD monitor, and it doesn't bother me about spreading the windows out. More info on the screen since there less lines to display the same info. Some site fix the sites width, so yea, multiple windows.

I will use the monitor as s dual view with my alienware laptop that has a 17" screen. Usually if I'm watching a movie and browsing the net or need to see two items at the same time. I do a lot of Netflix Instant watch that way.

I know my monitor can rotate ninty degrees and it will switch the view according. If your monitor does that too, could be very useful if your wife or you browse lengthy web pages.

If I have the browser on my main screen (1920x1200) and not one of my others, I usually have the window resized to 1024x768. Nice and easy to do using one of the links here.
