Map Tease
Work is progressing on new maps for future downloadable content, with the design and art teams vigorously engaged in the process. More entertainingly however, the ad-hoc test team of Bungie staff is enjoying these new maps greatly. My favorites are what I have already nicknamed Jodrell Bank and Moonbase Alpha.
I “invented” a game type on Jodrell Bank which is actually just Team Slayer with Swords and Snipers. Thanks to some unique geographical features of that map, it works great. Moonbase Alpha, on the other hand is best suited to objective games, like CTF and Assault, but it has some natural deadlocks that make Slayer interesting and Infection terrifying.
Which reminds me of one more downloadable map. The scariest map of all time. Dark, frightening and surprisingly enormous. One of the scariest things that has ever happened to me (and this in a lifetime fraught with terror) was racing away from a marauding gang of zombies in Infection atop a Mongoose, only to have one leap out of the darkness ahead and unseat me with a throaty scream. I call that level John Carpenter’s Prince of Dorkness. It’s not as catchy as Jub Jub, but it’s every bit as accurate.

| We don't really need a stabby/snipers do we? | |

I mean, you can actually lunge farther than the effective range of the shotty so it might be slightly longer range, but it will still amount to who's best on the sniper rifle (more often than not, who can no-scope)...

Why not come up with something like HandGun/Shotties or something?

Everyone I used to play with told me I was great with it because I could scope people out and get headshots like crazy. It's unfortunate that they removed that feature from the handgun in Halo 2 foward... although probably a bit more realistic.

Just kidding man. If the peeps want a scope on the handgun, I say give it to 'em. Let people customize their weapons.

The pistol was over-powered and ridiculous, but it was also totally amazing. And everyone spawned with one. Since everyone had one, it was balanced. It was a skill based weapon as opposed to the spray-n-pray dual-wielders in Halo 2 and afterwards. It was great for long-range and for close-range. 12 shots, 3 shots per kill. 4 deaths/ mag. It was the ultimate power weapon. Only a sniper rifle has the same deaths/ mag capability. In Halo 2 and 3, the BR have about 2-3 deaths/ mag.
Halo 2 & 3 automatically lose for the pistol's loss. The Halo 3 pistol is better, but it still takes about 6 shots to kill someone and with only 8 shots in a mag it's a totally ineffective weapon (i.e. miss once or have your target turn a corner and you can't finish them off without reloading which takes too long. Then you're dead).
I'm glad no one takes the realism too seriously, I mean, there's no fall damage for heck's sake.

Probably one of the reasons I stink so bad, but it's rare for me to get more than one kill out of a BR's magazine. I try the body, body, head, but it never ceases to amaze me how seldom it actually works that way. Heck, I've been running behind someone who's chasing someone else and bursted body, body, head, body, body and they still didn't go down. Shields flickering and all. Had to beat them down to finish them off. Yet the other night I got bursted twice with BR fire ducking in between the rocks by Vox from 100 yards and went down. It's tough to figure out.

When you'd scope someone across Hang Em High, and just aim at their person, you'd wind up hitting their head. Now, I know that they were probably using super head magnetic bullets, but come on. I don't miss the pistol one bit.
As for fall damage, Bungie changed that because it didn't fit in with what Spartans can actually do. Being super human demons and all. It's totally realistic!
