They seem too hilly and they have a lot of odd structures like in sandtrap. The reason this is an issue is because I remember playing my two favorite maps of all time, Sidewinder and Blood Gulch. They were wide open, and it made fights in warthogs, tanks, and ghosts and such a lot more fun.
So I'm wondering is, have any of you heard anything about the possibility of either of those two maps or something like them being brought over to Halo 3? Sidewinder was especially fun to me. I know Blook Gulch was rebuilt as Coagulation on Halo 2, but we're all on Halo 3 now, and I really want to enjoy some of these old maps again.

I don't know about Sidewinder, but it's certainly possible. Only time will tell, but I can all but guarantee new maps are coming.

The Bungie guy said there were plenty of maps under construction, but no official announcements as of yet. He also said he had just played a game of infection on one of them, and it was, "a map big enough for crazy vehicle antics, but also unexpected."
Whew. I feel better already.

| Zombie - that's a great idea! I totally dig the pirate ship reference too! That would be an awesome game mode/map. Don't have other things on the map, force the teams to rely on their elephants. Start them off with pistols or something short range only so that they must rely on their elephants. That would be a blast! Teammates leaping across to try beating down their opponents. Oh man, that could be loads of fun! | |

| Can't tell if you two are being serious or not.. so just in case - There's been a Pirate Ships variant up on Bungie Favorites since day one.
That said, it seems like it could be fun and I really want to try it. So if anyone ever gets a Pirate Ships game going, be sure to send me an invite!

But you're right, the big maps suck. They aren't set up for vehicle combat at all. The reason there was the change was because they didn't want vehicles obliterating ground troops and even more so, they didn't want snipers dominating maps.
Sidewinder was a beautiful map though. Numerous foot paths, both long and short. Wide open space for tanks and tons of 'hogs.
Personally, I like Valhalla, but I hate Sandtrap. It's a terrible for objective matches beyond rocket race. I'd be more forgiving if Bungie had included another large map for vehicles to play in with bases.

Jodrell Bank: Includes unique geographical features that make games of Swords and Snipers particularly fun. Moonbase Alpha: A map best suited for objective games like Capture the Flag and Assault and includes some "natural deadlocks." John Carpenter's Prince of Dorkness: "The scariest map of all time. Dark, frightening and surprisingly enormous."

My reference of big is coming from some of the Onslaught maps in UT 2004. HUGE. Sandtrap is tiny in comparison. Speed up the useless Elephant and give us some really big maps. Then we'll have something.

Should still be fun, though. I hope to have it ready this week.

Also, decrease the respawn time on the turret mounts. By nature, that Elephant is an easy target, in my mind. So, beefing up its defenses would help it, I think.

I've already got a bunch of rockets and snipers on it, along with several extra turrets and an immobilized gauss warthog in the back for it's gauss canon.
The attackers start in the crashed aircraft, and have tanks, warthogs, gauss warhogs, etc. at their disposal. All weapons and vehicles are the human version.
