Well Onyx did have the slip space area at the center of it, that is the one place that the forerunners could be safe from their weapons. As far as we know they could still be alive along with the remaining spartans there in the middle of Onyx because it said that the area in there was huge.

Peench I am going to be playing through on legendary shortly after I beat the game on heroic.

Good call on Cortana, I hadn't remembered that whole sequence.

I think that was totally Onyx, but even if that isn't a hint at another chapter, Bungie may just be leaving you with a feeling that maybe John will reunited with his former friends, thus making you feel like everything isn't so sad.

The next book, Contact Harvest, deals mostly with Seargent Johnson and the initial Covenant invasion, so hopefully we'll get more backstory about why Johnson is immune to the Flood, and his cryptic messages about always hanging onto the ladies.

Concerning the Legendary Ending:

This is from the Cortana Letters back in 1999 (if you don't know what they are, I suggest you read up on their history here and the actual letters here):

Sounds a lot like the 10 seconds we saw.

skulls and terminals are pretty easy considering, the scoring can get difficult if you choose really hard skulls.
