Entire Halo 3 game illegally uploaded online

The anticipated Xbox 360 shooter has found its way to numerous file-sharing sites after at least one person illegally uploaded the entire game to the Web.

The game file is around six gigabytes and can be transferred to and played on illegally modified consoles, reports GamesIndustry.biz. It has reportedly been uploaded within the past 24 hours.

Halo 3 is slated for a September 25 release date, and it is unknown who the source of the download is. Earlier this week, UK store Argos began selling copies of the game several days in advance but has since stopped.

The Xbox 360 title, which has already received more than a million pre-orders, is backed with a huge promotional campaign that some are calling the most extensive of its kind for a video game.

Ya'll probably knew this would happen, though.

I was reading a thread on GameTrailers.com where some guy claimed to have gotten the file.. He was gloating about it and quite frankly I could care less that he's playing before me. I'd rather buy it legally and not have to worry about any ban-hammers! Although the wait sucks, I can manage..

Ive read on a few forums that you are in fact NOT going to be banned for playing early, unless you work for Bungie. Smells of BS to me, but whatever. I have to wait till launch night anyway

Well anyone who has the illegal firmware will eventually get banned, Microsoft used the halo 3 beta to find and ban a lot of firmware consoles. I am sure that they check to see how the person is playing the game if they go on live.

The net file took longer than I thought it would to circulate. I figured people would be playing it weeks ago illegally. It can only be played on modded boxes, and Special Friend is right, modded boxes are banned when they connect to Live. Offline play is fair game though, seems silly to not wait and play the entire game as it's intended.

Yea, you would think that there was some kinda of internal leak or somehow a person at the pressing company decided to upload it or sell it to someone who would, but luckily most of the leaks so far have just been early sales of the game. I don't think that they are going to ban the people who bought it early because it is the stores fault and not the person who bought it.

On the other hand if I had managed to get my hands on a copy of the game I wouldn't go online with it until midnight of the 25th.

Yes, I have also read that if you get it early from a store selling it early, you will not be banned. I'm sure they'll want to know where you got it though.

Yea, because the people who buy it early will post on the internets where they got it from then M$ will find out and sue the distributor. I read one story about some guy who managed to pick one up from circuit city earlier this week.
