They're apparently remakes of Derelict and Hang 'em High! Sweet!!

HALO 2 MULTIPLAYER MAPS REVEALED

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios today confirmed the upcoming release of two new, eagerly awaited downloadable maps for “Halo® 2.” The maps will be available as premium downloadable content for Xbox® and Xbox 360™ on April 17.
Fans of the original “Halo” have long requested the addition of some of their favorite maps to the critically acclaimed multiplayer experience of “Halo 2.” These re-creations, developed by Bungie and Certain Affinity Inc., are a perfect way to thank fans for their support as they surpass 800 million hours of “Halo 2” gaming on Xbox LIVE®.
The two maps will bring new life to ancient battlefields and legendary skirmishes, as both are new, improved and redesigned remakes of fan favorites from the original “Halo: Combat Evolved.” For the price of $4 for the pair, these maps bring a fresh burst of action to the seminal “Halo 2” online multiplayer experience. Both of the maps will be available through the “Halo 2” in-game content downloader for both Xbox and Xbox 360.*
The king of “Halo” maps has returned at last. Hang ’Em High, arguably the most popular multiplayer map for the original title, has been reimagined for “Halo 2” as Tombstone, with all-new graphics, features and a few hidden surprises. Now fans will enjoy the dangerous catwalks and trenches that made this the most requested “Halo” multiplayer map ever, with a modernized “Halo 2” flavor.
The second map, Desolation, is a symmetrical, Deathmatch-oriented map and a beautiful remake of the original Derelict. With new graphics and effects and a massive gameplay overhaul, the old favorite is now faster-paced and more balanced than ever — perfect for intense “Halo 2” combat.

I'm trying to find a screenshot or other image of the original Derelict. I can't remember what it looks like. I may have to pop in the Halo disk when I get home. Anyone find it?

For PC? Those pics are way to clean to be the console version.

Ohhhhh snap! Tombstone!

Great news.

EDIT:Zoomba, I moved this to the H3 section, because I'm a tool.

I think Derelict was inside, with a walkway across the second level that was accessible by teleports.

Goat, these are for the 360/Halo 2. Can't be played on OG Xbox, and you gotta have an Xbox Live Gold account to download 'em.

Also, still screenies look better than the real deal. Though, I bet since they are for the 360 only, they may have had more room for making things better looking.

There is a 360 Halo 2? So this will be rendering at much higher than 480p then? I don't expect the same res (1600x900) at that pic but even 720p would be nice.

Yes! That is the one I was thinking of. It is a similar setup to Warlock (sort of) in that it is a big circle. This is a great map for Rockets and Oddball. I think there is an overshield in that little bunker area... either on the top floor or the ground level.

The post at Bungie.net confuses me a little. They make it sound like non-360 kids can D/L it too... but everything I've heard before has made it sound like only people on the 360 can get it. Apparently you cannot use MS Points, and it will directly charge your CC.

Also, this is set to drop on 4/17. Not too far at all!

Awesome news. I like the looks of Tombstone already. Derelict was a fun time too, and like Keezy said, it will be good for oddball for sure.

Also, these are NOT 360 exclusive, they will be available on the OG box as well, and will not use MS points to download, you'll need a credit card.

Bring on the 17th baby!

Ya know, Keez, I'm a bit confused, too. I remember reading that it was ONLY for 360 users. I can understand the Credit Card thing, since Halo 2 Download piece was done prior to the Marketplace being around.

OK, I dug this up from one of Monkey's posts back in November: post

Quote:
Another bombshell that was dropped today was the announcement of upcoming new multiplayer maps for Halo 2. There are a ton of details we simply can’t reveal right now but we can confirm that this content will be coming out sometime next Spring and it will cost something to download. We can also confirm that this new content is only going to be available on Xbox 360and that you’ll need a hard drive to download them (which is also required to play Halo 2 on 360 anyways).
