I don't know if they were in a mountain or not, you may be thinking of Dr. Evil.

I wonder if they Mythic is a new story within Halo 3 and those levels will also be maps? It just seems odd that MS is letting Bungie add 750 more gamer score. I am sure whatever Mythic is, it will cost $15 or so to get it.
I wish they would just announce what it is already.

What if the Superintendent is just another rampant AI and nothing more?

But I think you're on to something with the Section One stuff. According to this timeline, the predecessor to Spartan II wasn't actually called Spartan I (although I guess the units themselves could have been called Spartans). The project was called ORION, so wouldn't military abbreviations use that instead of the unit nick? It could still be the first of the Spartans since ORION was an ONI project.
Good grief I'm geeky. I love this stuff.

Nerdologists also found reference to 9/24 in the picture that accompanied the Rampant AI rant.

Bungie Rocks! | I probably won't have Wondermonkey's love anymore, but Bungie has nuked the fridge when it comes to story. Halo 2 was an embarrasment and Halo 3 was only "serviceable" enough to move the action along. So I'm pretty "cool" when it comes to Bungie's new blitz that feature their trademark oblique references and arcane rumblings, which I have historically loved.
I still think they make games with great gameplay, and I'm definitely interested in what they're making, but I'm off the kool-aid. I hope that with a new game and (hopefully) a new universe, that they'll be able to get back to some good stories that are well told.

| I agree with my pookie Epyon about the story. It had all of the potential to be a truly inventive piece of Sci-fi storytelling. But Halo 2 shit on the coats(of originality), and Halo 3 was regrettably forgettable.
I respect Bungie as creators of great ideas, and executing them [for the most part] well enough. A new project from them would have me excited, and I would be lining up to see it. I just would be the only guy in line not wearing Halo-related merch.
Side note, I hope it's a XBLA port on Gnop.

The story is essentially StarCraft: Humans (Terrans & Marines) vs. technologically advanced space fairing race with religious overtones that wield energy weapons and swords (Protoss & Covenant) vs the aggressive parasitic lifeform (Zerg and The Flood). And of course add in the extremely technologically advanced ancient race that created it all (Xel'Naga and The Forerunners), but mysteriously disappeared leaving behind lots of its technology to find. Mix in a healthy dose of Bungie's own Marathon and a few touches of Alien and you get Halo: Combat Evolved. I'm not saying all that to bash Halo 1 (I love you), but to just say I know what it's strengths and weaknesses were.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Lambertville, NJ Age: 32 | It's hard to find original storytelling in science fiction, since the old greats did everything so well, everything's been beat to death.
People thought they had it in Star Wars until they saw The Hidden Fortress.
People thought they had it in Firefly until they watched a few Civil War and WWII serials and realized how cookie cutter it was.
People thought they had it in Mary & Kate Olsen's New York Minute and they were right.
I've always enjoyed the story of Halo (all of it) and thought they did an exceptional job telling it without restricting the player and pushing them through tubes (like Bioshock - which I absolutely love, but it was far from open gameplay). For a FPS, I thought the story was extremely well told, and the universe that Bungie created with this game will live on for a long time. But, I also can't get enough games about riddling religious fanatics with pink spikes, so my view is also extremely biased.
I'm all in for whatever those fellas have planned.
