Big Halo news due this week?

The news is out!

I stayed up until 5am Eastern incase they stuck to their timeframe of releasing the news and sure enough they did!

*In a few short months we will all play Halo 3. Not the retail version but a public mutliplayer beta test. An unspecified amount of maps will be available, although Im sure 1 would suffice. Im sure even then people will find a reason to complain.

**Also in the spring, all new maps for Halo 2 will be downloadable via marketplace.

***And to round it all out, a new Halo 3 teaser ad will be shown this December. It will last 60 seconds and air during ESPN's Monday Night Football game featuring the Panthers vs. Eagles. Its going to be available on marketplace the following night



Its a slow morning and I'm looking for excuses to stay away from the Berserker on Insane....

Just in time for Halos 5 year anniversary? Bungie says there will be something headed our way

The weekly update says "some pretty BIG surprises and maybe announcements," as "a bunch of stuff is going down to celebrate the 5th anniversary of a little game we like to call Halo."

---Remember when Uncle Billy swore Halo would coincide with ps3? What if theres a demo lurking out there, it could be Halo 3, it could be Halo Wars, it could be anything. But you can bet your ass that because stores arent getting the ps3 units they expected, they would love to sell some extra 360s thanks to some big surprise MS has planned.

Best Buy and others are already fully prepared to sell 360s with a free game to those that couldnt get a ps3. Something thats "Halo related" could help move a lot of consoles. This is going to be a huge holiday season indeed!

The only problem with this is that if something like this was going to happen, the retail chains would have to know about it and they can never keep a friggin secret...

Unless.....

It's something downloadable and they are taken out of the loop entirely?

Yeah, it'd probably be a download, just like other demo's. And, you can bet they'd run a few commercials for it, too, during afternoon cartoons, just to grab the attention of the youngin's.

MS is always looking to shake up Sony, and I think they could do it by releasing a Halo 3 demo around the same time as the PS3. I also think if they do, it will be the first demo that the marketplace will charge points for.

If you thought there was a lot of Halo information last week, wait ‘til next week. A bunch of stuff is going down to celebrate the 5th anniversary of a little game we like to call Halo. In November 2001, Halo launched alongside the Xbox console, and the rest is history. Next year, Halo 3 will conclude the story arc begun all those years ago and next week, we’ll take a long lingering look at the series to date. There will also be some pretty BIG surprises and maybe announcements. Who can say?

There was always rumor that there would be a Halo 3 demo, much like there was one for Gears as well. Bungie is always tight lipped when an announcement is brewing, and they've been tightlipped lately.

Tomorrow, 11/15 is the 5 year anniversary, we may see something announced then.

Tomorrow is also my sister's as well as my gf's youngest brother's birthdays (I had to pay extra for all the apostrophes). No coincidence that both have an H shaped birthmark on their foreheads. Very strange.

Hmmm, I think the "H" shaped birthmarks mean something...

You know, I think it's pretty astounding that outside people (EGM/1up) are playing multiplayer already, and it's already moved out of "Bungie Only" testing waters. It's still pre-alpha, but it's astounding nonetheless.

You have a point, one that I overlooked. Bungie never let editors play a game that wasnt due out for another year. Something is definitely brewing

Think about the ramifications of a Demo though, especially one that could be sold with 360 packages from here on out.

They could even have achievements for it, demo only. One map, completely customizable, private lobby enabled would be amazing. It may even get all those people keeping Halo 2 the top played game on Xbox Live to go out and get a 360 for it.

I don't even want to speculate, because it will probably wind up being just the release date, but still. A closed match map to get the next-gen feel of things... mmmm.

Yeah that would be a MAJOR blow for M$ and a release of a one map multiplayer demo would take some of the spotlight off of Sony/Nintendo....

And it would make sense. I don't think there's been an announcement about an XBOX Live Arcade game being released tomorrow. Wednesday seems to be the big release day for the Marketplace so maybe that's what MS/Bungie have up their sleeves.
