Legitimate complaints of GTAIV here...
I want to start off by making it perfectly clear that I love this game. I've already spent the prerequisite amount of time (40+hrs) to have an enlightened opinion.
So, the one and only thing that drives me CRAZY about this game is during multiplayer. Here it is:
Is there some hidden reticule/menu/screen that has the name of the idiot player in the room I'm in making all of the noise? {Noise=> See- Screaming, Shouting, Namecalling to no one in particular because without said reticule no one actually knows who they're talking to unless they know them}
This seems like a pretty basic function for online harmony. Am I crazy? Is there a reticule that I just haven't seen yet? I know if you push DOWN on the digital control pad that a list with the names of all other players in the room comes up, but there's no identification showing us who's screaming the 'N' word over and over again just to bother everyone. Going into the recently played list on the 360 menu and just muting people you don't know down the list until the noise stops is a major hassle in the middle of a ranked match.
Ahhh... That feels better to get that off my chest. If there's anything else blatantly messed up with the playability of this game lets get the word out sooner rather than later so Rockstar may be able to patch it. I've already posted another version of this gripe to their site. Thanks for hearing me vent...

I usually mute people in the pre-game lobby when the match is getting set-up. Most people have chat set to Team Only once the game starts, I've only played one where it was set to All, same goes for Proximity (which can be very enjoyable).
I do wish it would put everyone back into Party Mode when a game disconnects. And that the spawn system was more dynamic. I hate killing the same people over and over again, games can end up being completely owned by a single team with the current system.

Okay, my gripe for GTA IV is in the SP. If you fail a mission and you're half-way across town, it sucks to have to go all the way back to restart it. I wish it'd just let you restart right at the initial point the mission kicks in.

You're of course aware of the instant message that warps you the Last Mission Start point right? If so, I don't understand your gripe man.

Yeah that pregame lobby helps, but it's useless if the jackass decides not to harass until the game begins...

My gripe is on the same level as thornes. When you have a very long mission instead of restarting you at a logical point, like when you accomplish a task like driving to the place where the mission starts, why doesn't it just start you back at that point instead of making you do it all over again. The long missions really need checkpoints.

Runder - I think that if you are on the map screen it shows the icons for people differently when they are speaking. I could be wrong tho as I haven't spent that much time in MP. Might be worth checking out. I guess the only problem could be if there were more than one of them. At least you could narrow it down.

Runder, get either some noisy pets or a naggy wife. You'll learn to tune the annoying idiots out online.

CHECKPOINTS! yeah the mission redos really suck. you can usually cut down on time by jumping in a cab to save the crosstown trip after the mission starts, but its still obscene to have to replay those long ass missions.
The driving sucks also. Especially in those missions with car chases in them. Multiplayer is kinda crappy IMO also. Too gimmicky and just not very fun in general.

yes bt even if you do that you still have do drive all the way across town again... I was playn the mission last night that you have to get the large black chicks cocain back at the run down hospital and the mission actually starts at her place but the cocain is all the way over to the middle island.

The only way I've seen to be able to see who is talking is to have the person on your screen. I think you even have to aim at them for it to work. The little dot over their head will have a symbol in it when they are talking.
If you're all in a car, it's a huge pain. I'll be telling my car that I saw somebody up ahead to the right, and another car on our team will turn right when they don't need to. They definitely need to just have the names of who is talking pop up on the screen.

The mission replay system is a big one for me. If the mission starts where I have to drive to the checkpoint, I should be able to restart from the checkpoint that I drove to, not at the point where they tell me about my mission.
Pain in the ass. I've been taking cabs everywhere now. I usually take my money back too if it's over $40. I don't feel bad because I wait for the ambulance to arrive and save the cabbie.
Also, the driving is really bad in this game. I'm tired of honking the horn trying to get away from the cops.

That's funny. I wait for the ambulance to arrive so I can shoot or run over the paramedics...

I wait for the ambulance to arrive so I can kill the paramedics and steal it for a health boost.
