If you're from NY

So I heard that liberty city is based on NY city so if anyone wants to fool with it and is from the area I was wondering if anyone wanted to show real places compared to places in the game or to make it more easy just take a pic of your map screen with your waypoint marker and tell where that is in real life..... For instance can you recognize the building dave letterman does his show in or is the areana that the knicks play in on the game if so mark them so i'll know where to look. I did see the location that was @ the beginning of I am Legend and I also think it was on vanilla sky.

Yes, it's based on New York.

Here's a good start for you (by the way, we're going to the Steinway Beer Garden on Friday night, so I'll take some pics).

There's also this: » 8 Things ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’ Gets Wrong About New York City, Including Bagels (they've got the bagel thing down - we eat bagels for breakfast, and you can't find a single one in the game!)

Great this guy is complaining, just what i was hoping for, Hopefully the makers read this and say Forget New York, Lets do the Bay Area next time, At least they appreciate it and keep it REAL.

Plus we use our cars down here, cause we dont have any subways that will cross the Bay, but we do have 5 bridges with another one being built right next to the Bay Bridge (cause the bay bridge isnt Major Earthquake proof).

But this time i hope they Just do a Bay Area, And not L.A. and Las Vegas, If Miami and New York get their own Maps the cities in the west deserve it too.

Funny about the Tai Chi people though, I love watching them, its...tranquil.

A Bay-area GTA would be cool. There would be a whole bunch of Tw@'s in San Fran, also the hilly nature would be fun.

I just want to tear shit up in Oakland & Vallejo (Botmanns Home town)

And it would be cool if they added Sac-Town (Sacramento - Serren's Home town) thats as far as the Bay Area would like to accept, San Diego and L.A. are on their own.

Picture trying to escape the FBI down the curvy block of Lombardi street, LOL. There could be some cool car jumps in SF. But do you think they would ever do the blind intersection because the hill is so steep you can't see over your car hood in the first person perspective? I figure Gehad and Serren may be the only ones who'll understand.

As long as they don't do Liberty City, I think you have a shot. Since Rockstar is New York, they've always based Liberty City on New York (besides the fact that one of New York's nicknames has always been Liberty City) but I think they finally had the chance to realize it fully with GTAIV. Although, with the success of this game, I have a hard time thinking they're going to leave the city behind.

That dude wasn't complaining either, he was just pointing out the shit you could never do in NYC, like jog in Times Square, because of all the slack-jawed yokels gazing up at the pretty buildings.

I've yet to really take the subway in this game though, although I do rely on taking the cabs (then taking my money back) because you always wish you could do that in real life.

Also, here's a great building comparison.

There's a pretty good video too, they don't have an embed option, so it's linked here. Bob Marley too. Word.

Those building comparisons were pretty cool monkey. Another question I had was are these locations located relativly close to where they should be. For instance {keep in mind ive never been up to new york so I know very little bout it} the park in the center island I asume is central park.... If it is central park is the real central park in the northern part of manhatten{if the center island is manhatten} like it is in the game.

Yes, it's pretty spot on. Obviously, there are many more streets in Manhattan than Algonquin, but Central Park is almost spot on located where Middle Park is. My buddy has a co-op looking out over Central Park, and his building is actually in the game.

Pretty cool. The same goes for Times Square, the Piers, etc. They are all located where their real life counterparts are as well.

Dont forget they did it in San Andreas, San Fran was called San Fiero and it had those crazy chinese/vietnamese with the tattoos (SPOT ON) it had lombard st. and the 2 bridges with some steep streets. but it was small cause they also had L.A. and Las Vegas. Knowing you Botman you would go straight down Lombard st. without driving the curves. They could make those steep streets because in every GTA game your able to control the camera angle Up, Down, Left, Right, with the right thumbstick so you could hold the thumbstick up right before you hit the street.

the steep streets of SF is the beauty of the city, if you go to the top of those streets & you could actually see the view of the city from different parts and angles. I watch the fire works that are shot off from bubba gump on a specific road far away from the traffic so when all is said & done im on the freeway 40 minutes before people are even in their cars.

Wonder i know he wasnt "really" complaining, i was just using it to push a point so they could switch up the maps. Im pretty sure the next game map wont be NYC it will probably be Miami again, or maybe even Boston or baltimore, But San Fran and the Bay Area is a PERFECT map for a GTA game.

Check out this damn commute i do From Hayward to San jose(weekends, Used to be everyday), & Hayward to San Mateo. that bridge toll is killing me but at least i dont have to take a cab or subway like Wonder...i would hate that.

I didn't get far enough in GTA:SA to see all of SF or Vegas. Unless one has been around SF, they just can't understand how hilly the city can be. You know with the physics in the games, hit the hills just right, and you'll jumping over houses, and maybe blocks of streets. At least, with the technology now, it won't be like Driver on the PS1 where Marin was a turnabout.

your commute sucks. Don't worry about toll, you know they're working on raising it to $5, even if they haven't said anything on the news yet.
