GTA4 Autosave Glitch

Just a warning. I had been relying on the autosave feature and after booting up the game last night, I tried to open up the map to look for missions and the screen went black on me.

After waiting a minute, I shut off the power and restarted the game. Lo and behold, I wound up starting at my last save point (not the autosave) and lost about 5 hours worth of play. Before it autosaved again, I shut down, rebooted and got the same result. My autosave point was gone.

The moral is to save your game frequently lads. Don't get hosed like I did.

I didn't even realize there was a save option. I just know it saves after missions or after completing something. Since I reload after failing anything, I know exactly where my save is at.

brian, did you go to the pause menu. look under game, load. the autosave should be at the bottom of the list.

I did not realize and I will try that, thanks. It should automatically load up the autosave when you start the game, and it has reverted to my last ACTUAL save instead. I guess it can't hurt to try.

Go to the bed in your safehouse and press Y(if not Y its one of the bumpers but I cant remember but it tells you.) and it will pop up the save menu and you can pick an empty block and then it is as if you slept and it will even pass some time so if you need to wait for some appointment you can just go make a save and 6 hours go by.

Your phone should have a message asking if you want to replay a failed mission. This way you don't have to go all the way back to the mission marker. You are automatically taken there.

I guess I must have had my autosave overwritten after my game crashed. I'm just thankful that I was only a few hours into the game. I would strongly advise you guys to try and make a new save file from the safehouse every hour or so at the least so you don't get hosed.

I learned to save frequently years ago, . With two younger brothers and dumb @$$ friends that screw your game up, anyone would.

if you fail a mission or die while on a mission, wait about 2 secnods youll see the new message icon, press up on your dpad and it will have a messag asking if you want to replay. press the green button to replay the mission.
