So..GTA4 on 360 is 720P w/2xAA. PS3 is..?

There's always something. The internets was claiming the PS3 version was superior. Not so once the shit hits the streets. Missing geometry or lower resolutions seem to be the norm between 360 to PS3 games. Well, apparently the 360 is running at 720P w/2xAA and a better framerate than the PS3. While the PS3 runs at 630P (?) w/ NO AA and a slower framerate. This lower res may not be an issue for 42" and lower sets. But anything over that your gonna notice it. So far this is all just hitting, so maybe someone has shit wrong.

Not too worried about the lower resolution, some of the best looking games are sub 720p, COD4 and Halo 3 looks pretty good SP as well and both are under 720p. PGR3 is pretty jagged though. Well I'll be checking it out tonight (60" 120hz, SXRD) and my friends 360 (50" Plasma)version eventually as well. I'm sure they are close enough that it doesn't really matter. Either way it sounds like the perfect 10's is a bit more than it deserves, especially after some screen grabs I've seen. Granted the scope of the city is huge so it might be a big reason why they are still giving it 10's. In the end the videos make it look very fun on either system.

Funny stuff is seeing people magnify 400% and comparing shots and so many contradicting anecdotal posts on which one looks better.:0

From the link:

"After reading the PS3 is at 620p with no AA but less texture pop-in I'm completely torn on which platform to buy. 720p + 2xAA but more pop-in on the 360...Argh."
Interesting. I did watch some gif's of the texture pop-in Magic Tree and some others, pretty funny stuff.

I'll have to check out that in game tv feature as well when I get it. Probably something like The Darkness had but more entertaining hopefully.
GTA 4 in-game TV better on PS3 - Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360 News - VideoGamer.com

A post I read with snippits from some of the bigger review sites:

Quote:
IGN
"For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster."

EGM
"PS3 or 360 version: PS3 version looks slightly more vibrant and sharp"

1UP
"None of these little flaws take away from Liberty City's breathtaking vistas, incredibly varied scenery, and lived-in look (the PS3 version has the slightest visual edge, plus motion-control support"

Game Reactor
"Swedish Gamereactor mentioned in their 10/10 review that they were pretty surprised regarding the difference between the PS3 and 360-versions. The PS3-version features better colours, contrast, load times and what looks to be better resolution textures. The game also looks sharper and has a more stable fps."

GameSpy
"For those who have to decide between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, we should mention that these flaws are slightly less noticeable in the PS3 game."

Kotaku
"The PS3 version, with its required HDD install, loads missions a couple seconds faster and decreases pop-in. The Xbox 360 version can suffer from some very noticeable texture loading, as things like trees, vehicles and building signs will regularly pop-in as one tools about town. It can be distracting, especially during high speed chases"

This vid from gamevideos.com shows the two side by side. I don't see much difference as a practical matter. But then again, I'm hardly a videophile. As far as I can tell... The 360 version has whiter cars, and better dressed main characters. I should warn, the video has some NSFW language and some pretty bad music.

Well from that video her nipple clearly (upon 5 time magnification) has two more pixels on the 360 version but the lighting isn't as good.. maybe that is a good thing

edit: ok, am I just seeing things or is the water (starts at 1:04) in the panning beach shot at the end flickering in the PS3 version and the 360 version seems fine but not as smooth of a framerate (looking at the pier at 1:17)

just called Circuit City.. sold out of the 360 version, over a dozen in stock for the PS3.

Definitely something wierd going on there. Also, the boat pops in on the 360 version immediately after that. My guess is, neither version is anywhere near perfect, but both will play very. very fun.

Not all ratings are based off of the technical aspect of games. Although a lot of the time they are, but this isn't the case for GTA IV. Reviewers, for once, looked passed the technical issues with the game. Which aren't really major, game breaking issues. They actually judged the game on it's content, rather it's performance. I've found that to be quite a rare occurance in game reviews nowadays. It's a little refreshing to see them review a game the way "I" think they should.

It was pretty darn close. In some scenes, the 360 seemed to have better lighting effects, but then others the PS3 seemed to have better. Both looked really close though. I'd say framerate and loading times would be a better comparison vs. graphics at this point.

I think the worst game (technically speaking) I have played so far on the 360 is probably TWO WORLDS. It had more bugs than an Indiana Jones movie, but I still really liked the game. Glad to see they are reviewing based on the important stuff like how much fun the game is.
