No kidding!!! I hopped online for a few minutes yesterday and thought about playing something in multiplayer (haven't in about a week), and all but maybe one or two people were playing GTA IV. It's just like CoD4 all over again when I didn't have that game and everyone else did.
I'm glad this thread is here though, because I want to know what people think of the game once you've put some hours into it. I'm not sure, but there's still a possibility that I'll get it.

This is my first real attempt at a GTA game - I have San Andreas but never really got into it due to the graphics suckage...
I'm through a few missions - have had my warm coffee (on the second date - after getting drunk w/ michelle), got my double lap dance (which apparently I didn't have the money for - so the bouncers beat the crap outta me), and done a few of the Vlad missions.
Three things are frustrating me right now:
All the people in the street and no one to talk to. OK - you can honk at hookers and they come up to your car - and other dudes will talk smack to you - but, it'd be nice to have SOME way (other than pushing and punching) to interact with the people on the street. I went for a burger, and there was some chick sweeping the floor. She put the broom down then headed outside - I thought "hmm - maybe this is someone you can interact with" so I followed her out and TRIED to find a way to 'talk' to her - but you can't!
I mean - why can't you just go up to ANYONE and at least have some kind of conversation. (or can you???? and I just don't know how?)
Second is how dark the game is. I've got the brightness all the way up - tried to punch the contrast up too - but things started looking really crappy. This is the only game I have right now that brightness is an issue - so - that kinda sucks.
Lastly - why do i keep losing cars?? I jacked a sweet SLK look-a-like, went to pick up Michelle - drove her to the bar, and when we came out, my car is gone... (had to take a cab back to her place - too drunk to jack -n- drive lol). Same with some missions. I grab a sweet car - head over to Roman - and the mission is always "here take my car" - and I have to take his POS. Again - am I just not doing something right??
I jacked another SLK and then went and saved the game at the safehouse (my first game save) - so - we'll see if this one sticks with me when I play now.
I've only played an hour or two - and it's OK... I'm not getting the 10/10 thing either, but I'm not giving up on it yet either. Still gotta try some MP too!

It's all about cruising, man. Jack a car, find some tunes, and just drive. Or walk around the city and take it in, listen to the wackos... Some thugass just bump into you? Oh, now he's talking trash? Put a bullet in his skull. Hmmf - homey aint talkin so big now. LOL

So Thornes is here, Pimpin, Macin, Bosshoggin the Candy Paint. This has to be the best paragraph of the whole thread...probably in the whole GTA sub-forum.
I can see the annoyances people have, too big of maps - Maybe but thats new to videogames and to tell you the truth, I havent got killed by a single ****ing grenade yet, and that by itself deserves a freakin 8.0 rating. Plus i dont respawn every 10-30 seconds, Plus remember that Whatever you suck at you dont like, I sucked at Car Jack and you were in the room with us Crip and i remember you saying, "Damn, THIS MODES HORRIBLE!" i felt the same way, but i keept trying and basically this mode has the best of both worlds, Gunning and Driving. Its not pure gunning or driving though, sometimes its quicker to let your opponent zoom by you and you keep going to your destination. Once you learn to drive you of course do much better, I love hitting and bending corners (While slapping my High speed getaway Mob/gangsta music) in the cars, and i love that Monte Carlo, Im still wondering if you can Pimp out the cars or not.

I.Hate.Car.Jack.City. No, I'm pretty sure that mode will still be horrible in time. Nothing is really compelling about the multiplayer game at all for me excet for hanging out with fellow PGL peeps. It's all just run of the mill game types that don't capture any of the essence of the GTA vibe. And there are other games that do the standard game types way better. They needed to do something totally different to keep peeps playing the mutliplayer in this game. Which is a shame they didn't because I was hoping it would have been so much more where we would be playing it for the next yr. Sadly it will probably be all forgotten w/in 3 months.

I haven't opened yet (dark sector) I'm think I could have save my money....
|
Dark Sector is a waste of money, Yes, But GTA no where near that if you know what its about and what could be done in the game world.
You know a funny thing is that the other team can straight up call you from the multiplayer match or you could call each other. I was having a heated battle with this one guy, and we duked it out for about 2 minutes, finally he kills me and as soon as i respawn i get a call from my cellphone, im like
"WTF, Is roman calling me from the singleplayer campaign to tell me to help him out or what!?"
Then i notice its the guy who just killed me i pick up and im like "Errr...Hello?"
The guy just laughs and says "Your not killing me that time buddy!" and we both laugh and he just hangs up. Thats awesome right there
I called Bronx from in game and we spent like 2 mins talking to eachother cause i didnt know how to hang up the phone.

I spent a good 3 hrs blasting through the missions and story line last night. Sorry, I ignored a few MP invites. I'm liking the single player more now. The story has opened up and the reason Niko came to the US is out. Niko is an awesome character. I love his come backs and how he breaks peeps balls at times. I find myself wanting to do nothing but play through the story now. It's tough trying to get 2 kids to bed so I can cram some gaming in before the wife gets home from work and wants to watch some TV. I think the addiction is growing.

Puh. Yeah, see if you get invited again!
Kidding (obviously). This game is one of those that it's hard to stay away from the SP for long.
We saw the heart in the statue, and endured some hilarity trying to drop off on to the statue's base. Evil Quonevil also jumped a motorcycle off a parking garage and over the spinning rotors of Keezy's helicopter. I'll see if the video footage turned out ok. For some reason my Hava disconnected last night. Needs a reboot.
I'm also starting to get in to the SP a bit more. Rolled with Lil Jacob on a few missions, that was cool. Haven't opened up the next island yet though. I did grab an SUV, drove it up on the L, across the bridge and onto the next island... I drove around in the subway over there trying to avoid the cops. They didn't find me, but I made the stupid mistake of exiting my vehicle and shooting some bums (they had like $130 on them... wierd!) I think I got like 8:30 of my 10 minutes on 6-star.

I too like Nicko, for the most part he's a decent guy in a bad situation.
Little Jacob seems pretty cool also, although sometimes a bit hard to understand, unlike the old dude that lives with him whom you can never understand.
Brucie on the other hand is a wack job who needs to chill out a few degrees.
