Xbox live issues

I get kicked out of games constantly in halo 3 and it says i have a moderate NAT. Just yesterday i would check my NAT settings and it would say open but in halo 3 it was strict. So than i change my MTU number and it actually tells me that my NAT settings are moderate. But i still get kicked off a lot. So i tried doing the static ip thing i set the address to 192.168.1.101 subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and Gateway to (192.168.1.1). And i try to configure xblive connectivity and it stops at DNS and it said it failed. I have no idea how to do all that other stuff with DMZ and UPnP and i have read all the other threads. If someone can help me that would be great.

You must likely need to open the required ports in your router that the 360 uses. There are a few posts hear with screen captures of what these setting look like. It's really easy. Your 360 will tell you its IP. Take that IP and in the port section in your router, enter that IP and enter the required port numbers as shown in the other posts.

The DMZ is even easier, but it sometime requires that the ports are also opened. Your router will have something called either the DMZ or "gaming zone". It will ask for an ip. Enter the IP your 360 is using into this section and save.

Good luck!

To open the ports dont i need a static ip? I have the ports put in but when i try to put a manual ip on my Xbox 360 and test network connection it says my DNS failed. If anyone can tell me how to set up a static ip that would be great.

Also i heard i need the firmware 1.04.8 someone gave a link to an ftp site of old firmware but link was broken for me.

I just got my ip address working and i found my DNS settings and now my NAT goes from open to strict. Not like it was working when it said it was open anyway.

I was gonna suggest grabbing your DNS settings when it was on auto so you could plug them in when setting up manually, but looks like you got to that part.

My new 360 gave me the same problem after I set it up manually to the IP address I had forwarded the proper ports. Oddly enough, the way I got it to switch from strict back to open was to unplug (for 30 seconds or so) and then replug in my router. For some reason that seemed to reset it so that it actually used the proper settings that I had set up in the admin panel. Give that a shot and let us know if it works.

Ok it opened my port but look at these reviews i found on my router. I guess its not my NAT its my whole router.

Newegg.com - LINKSYS BEFSR41 10/100Mbps Router 1 x 10/100Mbps WAN Ports 4 x 10/100Mbps LAN Ports - Retail

Look at the pros and cons everyone says it is a terrible router.

Does anyone know of a reliable wired router that works good with xbox live it would be really great if you could help me out.
Thanks

I'm not familiar with your router. Since it sounds like you're rather new to home networking, I suggest to get one of the known xbox compatible routers: compatible list.

Given the information you gave, I would set the 360 back on dynamic again. I thinking you're don't have correct DNS settings right now. I would then trying port forwording, then the DMZ zone. Turn on the UPnP if the router has it. You can always try unplugging everything for about five minutes, then connect everything in this order--modem, router, 360--making sure each device is up and running before turning on the next.
