I just bought this, because our router died.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833127158

I went into the gaming tab and set up a "rule" for xbox live. I opened the correct ports, but here's the great part. With that rule, I wrote that for my 360's ip that all traffic is allowed and it is allowed to send out as much information exclusive to that IP and those ports on my 360.

I can now play COD3!! W00t!

Hey guys and gals...

Quick update with anyone that has the Linksys WRT54G router. I have been having issues with my NAT setting, ie - stuck on moderate. I have had all the ports open and forwarded that should be, but no success. I came across a tidbit of information on Friday night that fixed my problem.

On the main screen for the router, there is a tab for MTU (maximum transmission units, I believe). The default setting is AUTO. I changed mine to 1350, as per instructions, saved the settings, and Presto... open NAT setting!!!

I believe that 1350 is still a big enough number, that your connection speed is not effected... I am sure some of the networking geeks on the site here, can correct my ASSumption... KEEZY???

Hey guys, I have a Netgear WGR614 at home, and it just decided to change the NAT settings to strict. I messed around with it last night, and I think I ended up screwing things up even worse. Can anyone help me get this fixed so Quo can beat me in our NCAA league?

Please feel free to PM me; heck, I'll even send you my cell number if anyone is kind enough to walk me through it.

Pshaaaaaw. Yeah right.

Not to send you over here and tell you to ask for help, then answer the question myself...

But here is a possible link to help:

Netgear Forums (A thread about strict NATs)

Also, PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall has a lot of info about setting up your router for stuff like XBL.

more info may be helpful. I don't have any netgear equipment. If it's all of sudden, shut everything down, including unplugging from the wall. Wait five minutes or so, then power everything on in order--modem, router, pc/console. Sometimes it's just the cable company and you just need to get a new IP from them.
