NAT and MTU problems for Xbox Live

I am having problems with my Xbox 360 and connecting to Xbox live. The kind of router I have is a Belkin F5D7230-4. My NAT thing says it is Moderate when I want it to be open. When I got on my Router page I enabled the UPnP and first it showed that I couldent connect to the X box live and I redone it. Te second time I tried it said the MTU thing would work or it didnt have enough stuff to make it work. So im really confused and im hoping one of you people can help me since im so inexperienced with computers and techonology.

Hey Buck! Welcome to PreGameLobby. Check out This Thread if you haven't already for some tips. The screen you see will be different b/c those screencaps were from a Linksys, but they should get you going in the right direction.

I had trouble with opening my NAT settings and could not simply rely on the UpNP. I actually had to open the specific ports as described in that post. I also tried it with UpNP on and off and for some reason it worked with it off but not on. Keep trying different combinations and you should be able to get it to work. If that doesn't work, post back what you have tried so we can help you out further!

My NAT is strict but I don't have any problems connecting only with hearing some voices. Thats a blessing sometimes anyways don't focus all your attention on that moderate NAT cause it might not be the problem. good luck

okay, I did all that stuff and it wont let me use the number 88. What should i do?
oh yeah a BTW it wont let me select both UDP and TCP. And here is a link from Port foward.com showing what my belkin router website shows... http://www.portforward.com/english/r...x_Live_360.htm

I have followed all the instructions and it still wont let me use the number 88...

I have a Belkin, and mine is open, so I know it can be done.

1) You have to enter UDP and TCP on seperate lines with same port numbers in each line respectively. So you will have four lines, UDP 88, UDP 3074, TCP 88 and TCP 3074. Also, make sure you have your 360's IP entered. You can find that in the 360 network info.

2) Also, place your 360's IP in the DMZ. That should help.

3) For testing, turn off the routers Firewall. It will make it easier to figure out what is going on.

I have the regular xbox, modem firewall is turned off, router firewall turned off,NAT is strict,I have no problem with connecting or hearing anybody, but my 1 problem is with PGR2 I have a hard time getting into lobbies. Its like my NAT is conflicting with other people with moderate or restricted NAT.I think my problem lies in my modem cause of the hardware in it.I have 1 modem that don't work anymore that gave me a moderate NAT but the 1 I'm useing now gives me a restricted NAT.So now I'm looking for 1 thats open,Linksys maybe like my router.

AngryMongoose, have you ever tried and unplugged everything for a few seconds to see if your Nat will reset. Also make sure your router and any other networking gear is compatible. I 'll try and dig up the list of compatible devices and post them up!

My nat settings are strict, too. I just had a friend over that does network stuff like this all the time and couldn't change it with my netgear router. That also explains why I can't hear certain people or get into games.

I don't think my router is the problem, Linksys BEFSR41 version 4.1,Xbox.com list this router but version 3.I have downloaded latest firmware and turned off the firewalls.I believe it's my modem,my 1st modem gave me moderate NAT and I had no problem getting into lobbies, well it stopped working. My DSL provider sent me another modem but different brand,Zyxel 660r and it give me a strict NAT even if I bypass the router.I have found a linksys modem for $80. I going to check out.

Can you just throw your 360 into the DMZ? That should open everything up.

DMZ is the first thing people with problems should do. It might also speed up things a bit going through the router.

Is it that you put your own IP address in?

Yes, you give your Xbox it's own IP address manually, and then you tell the router that the IP address you gave the xbox should be in the DMZ.

I do have my xbox settings set on automatic, and I took the IP address and applied it to the DMZ and enable it.I don't know if it made any difference cause I still have a restricted NAT.My problem (I believe) lies in my modem,if I bypass the router and come straight out of the modem its restricted with firewalls turned off. There is no setting on my modem for DMZ, just the router. My final conclusion is get a different modem.I even tried the UPnP.
