You bet, Crash! I would strongly recommend checking out that HAVA deal if you don't have any sort of collection, though; playing in anything less than HD really sucks! I have to turn my tube's sharpness up to like 97 and it's still a bit blurry.
In the meantime, I've figured out a way to basically record games using the Dazzle Platinum, and after some minor touches, editing them using Windows Movie Maker. I just like it better, and it has way more options.
Tell me if you think the quality is better in your opinion:
Yeah, the GameVee is much, much better than Youtube. There are such better options around, the only reasons Youtube is around is evidently it's the easiest name to remember and they were there first.
personally I think Twango (now Share.Ovi.com) has the best video quality after upload. I'd give them a try (DMiller68 works for them). Alternatively, brightcove has good quality as well, but their upload software is an absolute beast. Ovi's far easier. We use Ovi for the videos for our ncaa football league.
Just for fun, here are some samples the Hava-recorded vids, uploaded to Ovi:
This next one actually shows the difference in vid quality when the better encoding is used... the sections of the vid where there's no gameplay audio are downloaded from the EA site and have their encoding (the first highlight is this way)... while the portions that have audio (most) are crisper and clearer. They were taken directly from the Hava recording while the game was being played in high def and then mixed and uploaded to Ovi.
For what its worth, once you encode these vids on any site you lose a little quality. In terms of real viewability on such a small screen on your computer monitor, the Hava option doesn't give incrementally better viewability. I think the real difference has to do with being able to still play in HD while you are recording.
I'd have to look back at Thornes original post... with both of these you run the risk of needing additional equipment or upgrades. I think he spend less than $200. For the Hava unit, I think the lowest wired HD version itself is $119. plus you'd need to make sure your network is capable of handling it. Wireless with all the bells and whistles is $199, plus you'd need to make sure your network has the wireless speed to handle it (wireless G). So invariably it's a question of how much you want to spend.
Wow, see I always knew YouTube sucked, but kept telling myself it didn't since thats where people always link help videos to. Think I found myself a new site.
Good info, Quo, thanks - I'll check out that Twango site this weekend.
Yeah, I'm mainly talking about playing in HD with the HAVA vs. S Video with the Dazzle Platinum. Losing some quality (especially on a free site) is expected, no matter where you go; just a matter of finding a site that not only looks good enough to catch the details (love the rocket, btw), but also that has the options you're looking for. Some sites offer their own (limited) editing as well, but they're so basic it's more frustrating than anything else.
