My connection is no good for Halo.

I really wish I could find out why halo lags so bad for me, any other game I can play but I just cant host really big matches but halo I lag so bad I cant even play in a small custom game with my friends without having my connection down to yellow bar at least. I really wish I could still love this game.

Well, if your connection is bad you're rarely hosting it. Party Leader does not equal host.

New thread...

Monkey is right, just because you're the party leader, doesn't mean your the network host. Halo's networking system is unique in that the game finds the best connection of the players in the lobby, and assigns that person as the host.

Is your NAT open? What kind of internets do you have? What does speedtest.net say?

It could also be your firewalls, double NATing, and so forth. It's not always about speed, but about your setup and quality of connection.

Well usually if the game is in progress before other people jump in it should be my host unless it bluescreens but hosting isnt my problem. It is the fact that whenever I play halo my connection shows yellow or red bars but in call of duty my connection always seems fine. I even hosted a 10 player room on rainbow six without flaw I only started to have problems when I tried a 14 player room.

My NAT is open and My MTU is above the minimum I will run a speed test tonight through me router then just through my modem to see if there is a big difference. I think my parents may have even changed their internet speed unkowingly because the internet on my computer has even been slower since this fall when I started having problems.

Speed helps, but it's not that holy grail for online gaming. A lot has to do with traffic, quality of connection and so forth. When it comes to hosting, you really need to have a lot bandwidth, not speed, to host well.

I was getting only a moderate NAT, people said I was showing yellow connection when hosting, but I was able to able host 14 people on R6V2 with no lags in gaming or communication. Yet prior to fixing my LAN setup, I couldn't host more than two people, or doing song list longer than 5 in GH3, yet I still had the speeds.

im no geek, but maybe too many people are using your internet at the same time. If your on wireless. Then you may need to move closer to the base or get your house wired. Also if you internet connection gets overloaded by to many computers, it may just shut down. But Halo 3 and Big Team Battle dosent work so much for wireless network users.

It's just really issue on Halo. From conversation with Milk, he's ok on other games. The wireless issue would affect other games. It's probably something in his LAN setup and Halo servers on XBL.

Well unless a neighbor is stealing my WiFi, which is very possible but I doubt it because I turned off the extended reach option on my WiFi and I doubt the signal leaves my property because with the router in the basement I cant get a connection with it from anything when I am outside my house. I may just have one setting that I need to find in my router that will help keep my speed more consistant, what I think it really boils down to is that my cable company doesnt have enough bandwidth in this area and at night when everyone is home my connection speed suffers greatly and the cable company doesnt care as long as the average user is happy.

That could still happen. Do you have WEP KEY SECURITY on your wireless router. Put that on and it will block unknown people from access your wireless network. That happen to me!

Don't use WEP. It's easily defeated. It's very easy to find programs to hack a system with it. I recommend using WAP with AES. It's more secure.

I'll check it out but right now my mom is the only one in the house who actually use the wireless besides friends who come over and bring laptops and stuff and I really dont want to close if for that reason but as soon as I get my own laptop and figure out how it works and make guest slots for friends I really dont want to mess with it because my mom needs to be able to get online for work. And before anyone jumps to the conclusion that she may be on at the same time usually when I game I am the only one in the house using the network. I think what it really boils down to is low bandwidth in the area and/or a bad modem because It is even rather slow when I am just plugged into the modem.

Does ur router or modem just shut off sometimes, or turn off. If that does happen, u overloaded the speed it can take. Or if it just turns off by it self, then you have a bad router.

Also keep in mind that WEP or WAP will slow down your wireless connection a tad.
