Red Ring of Death Question?

Has anyone had the RRod and their 360 still worked?

I got an elite about a month ago. The transfer kit came in Saturday and I returned my pro unit to ebgames today. As I was playing today, I got the RRoD, twice. I know this sounds weird, but please read.

We are having strong winds, gusts to about 50mph, it seems like I am getting power surges. The lights and TV flicker, but don't turn off. Both times this happened, my elite stopped, and I got the RRoD. I turned off the 360, turned it back on and it still works.

I was wondering if I should go back to EB and get my pro unit back, in case my elite craps out. I was going to use the credit to get a MSG4 bundled PS3. I was thinking I should get it back and take a hit on the credit I receive when the bundle comes out and I return it then.

Anybody have any advice? All comments are welcome.

id ditch that unit ASAP, if its already hitting RROD, then its a good sign that its doomed

Ya 2times you will get the Red rings with power surges.It happend to me all winter.My Elite still works fine

Its brand spanking new, only had it for a month and its manufacturing date is 1/8/08. It would suck to have to return it and have to pay the difference for another.

I had those issues before mine 360 went dead. The closer you get to pernament death, the more frequent and more times you have to turn on and off your unit before it will work. It took mine about three to four months before it completely died.

why would you have to pay the difference for anything? take it back and get a replacement one

How many lights were associated with this RRoD? 3? 4?

Its too late for the ebgames 7 day return policy, and apparently they have something with M$ that they don't offer the in store warranty anymore for 360s. I go to the same store for all my gaming purchases and the guys there help me out with deals and free stuff all the time, so I don't think they would BS me on this. Anyway, its an extra sale for them, so why would they not try to get you to buy it. All repairs go through M$. I guess there were too many returns using the in store warranty.

If you are talking about returning it to M$ for repairs, that was the reason for this thread. I was asking you guys if I should get back the system I returned to ebgames today so I can have something to play if if seems like my elite is going down the crapper. The guys there are holding it for me if I decide to get it back.

And Zoom, it was 3. Is there a difference? I've only ever heard about 3.

I think pickle has had the same thing happen to him. So I may be fine. I was just wondering if anyone out there has experienced the same thing and had some advice.

The surge is causing your red rings. I used to get them too. If a surge is enough power loss to cause your lights to flicker then I am sure it's enough power loss to cause your 360 to flicker too. I would just put a cheap ups on it if you are getting a lot of surges. The red rings are there for failure codes and not all of them are fatal.

i understand now, i was actually referring to returning it back to the store. never thought id say it, but im glad i got mine from bbuy, no BS returns

2 Times - based on the number of red rings the issue is different. The death red rings is 3 rings. The others mean different things. I guess we should have the information here, but unfortunately we do not. Here's a pretty good guide about them though.

If you are only getting 2 red rings I don't think it is fatal. It should be okay. Adding a power protector of some sort should help.
