Verizon Fios vs. Comcast Cable

My Girlfriend wants to go with the Fios cuz it's cheaper and we get a free HDTV with a 2 year plan. We have Comcast Cable now and I like it, but it's almost $200 a month for phone, cable tv and internet. My question is this: Does anyone know if I will get more lag with Fios (fiber optic connection) than with Cable? The only reason I care either way is for Xbox Live. If the connection is going to suck, I will just stick with Comcast. Thanks in advance guys.

PS. Sorry if this topic has been discussed already, I search a little, but could not find it.

As far as internet, FiOS kicks all sorts of ass. Don't know about the TV service though.

FiOS is a much better internet connection overall. I'm thinking about going away from Comcast myself.

There are few people on here who have FIOS. One lives in Virginia. It's not available here, but from what I've seen, you get some major down/upload speeds for about twenty dollars less then comcast's service.

You may want to consider it. If you do, you can go with one of the VOIP services. I use voip.com and pay $200 for the whole year. Some people use Packet8 (a popular choice with prior Sunrocket subscribers). Since you're paying $200/mn, I'm assuming you're not on a promotion with Comcast, which means you're paying about $45/mn, which comes to $570 a year. Thus in theory, you can save close to $370 for year just on phone. Just make sure you get the VOIP working before discontinuing your current phone service. Issues can be a real pain to solve.

On paper, Fios should be much better. Our Cable internet ends up on a Fiber network anyway. So as far as speeds go, you should be fine. Now depending on how VZ has it set up could create issues, but I doubt it. All I've ever heard about Fios is that it has been great.

I'm very anxious to see how people like it after having it for a few months.

Fios wins hands down. All my customers love it and the only troubles we have been experiencing are defective set top boxes from Motorola. Other then that, Fios is growing unbelievably.
