ASU visit

Hey all, we could really use you opinions on something. We are going to be set up on the campus of Arizona State University on Wednesday the 26th. We will have a 10X10 tent set up on a large lawn area in the center of campus. We'll also be the only ones there, so we should be getting plenty of attention.

The plan is to have a table set up with a plasma TV and a 360. We are considering bringing a copy of Halo 3 and Guitar Hero II. Our plan is to provide students with a 15% off the first month offer if they sign up that day (we'll also have a notebook there for them to sign up on the spot).

So, here are our questions:

1. Should we have only Halo 3 set up or also have GHII as an option? If we go with H3, should we run it in 5 minute intervals, letting them play the campaign for a bit (I don't plan on having a hard drive connected to the 360)?

2. What sort of offer would attract the most students? Aside from the 15% off offer, we'd like to have a giveaway too. Would a copy of H3 be enough?

Thanks for your opinions everyone. We really appreciate it!

Matt

Sounds good man. GHII will attract the casuals, and Halo will attract everybody. A Halo giveaway sounds good, maybe a Collector's Edition instead of the vanilla version(or LE if you want)?

GHII will generate traffic. No doubt, all gamer types. Halo3 is a good hardcore game and maybe try some Bioshock. A Big Daddy will help spread the word across the campus. "You got to see this crazy game" kind of crap.

wont gh2 be a little misleading tho? you wont be able to rent them a guitar, i say just halo3, set up as many boxes/tvs as you can round up and have them lan and do 5min per round matches, be the easiest to monitor that way

When you're done, box it all up and send it here and I'll hold an event at UWM.

Sounds good, but...
  • Having two or three games out sounds better than 1.
  • Methinks that having four controllers connected to the Halo 3 will really get people psyched.
  • Make some return trips to different spots on campus?
  • Give ASU GYG t-shirts for signing up there
  • Have the music up loud.
  • Hotdogs and Hamburgers.
  • Brew

It might be the suck getting those TVs to show up well in bright daylight conditions. Also, I think giving away several subscriptions of varying length would be decent. That would give them a taste of the GYG goodness and more than likely put revenue in the till later on. Giving away a game doesn't do much for you. It doesn't even guarantee you the subscription. As for Halo 3 as a giveaway on the 26th, you may want to give them a choice of games. A lot of people may already have bought Halo 3 and also they may have a Wii or a PS3. The subscription giveaways remedy this situation also.

Oh and have punch and pie... more people will come if you say you are going to have punch and pie. Viva la Revolution!

I like Geoff's idea. You may want to do a first month free kind of thing. That may get you some try it out guys. Also some may get lazy and you'll get some revenue for those too lazy to cancel within the trial period. I would recommend to get the credit card info, otherwise you may not get the game back and be out the money.

To attrack students, food should work really well. The booze would too, but you may need liquir license, and could open yourself up to some liability issues for those who drink too much and either drive or get hurt somehow. Another good way to attrack some traffic, get some hot girls, hopefully wrestling around. If the wife will be there, tell her to slut up in dressing attiture for the event.

Attrack them, huh? I like it- attract them to you, then attack!

It went very well. Unfortunately I think we may have led to the downfall of the countries future though. We had so many people blow off class so they could stay and play Halo 3.

We've had a few folks sign up so far. But, the main success is that we met the president of the ASU video gamers club. (We didn't even know that it existed.) So, we're going to get together with them, sponsor some of their events, etc.
