Wirless-N & 360

Hey Folks -

Who's the resident Wireless N expert here these days?

I just realized via speedtest.net how sloooooooooooow my wireless connections are!! At least comparatively to my my wired connection. I'm using wireless G now.

So - I'm looking at N routers (so far, preferably the Buffalo one), but is there any sort of way to hook the 360 up wirelessly using N yet??

Anyone using N yet?

As far as I know, the 360 won't be able to utilize N... I think it's only a Wireless G compatible system.

I have a Wireless N router, and my understanding is, if there are any G's on the network, it drops to Wireless G speeds. At least that's the case for my router.

I think that some routers support both G and N at the same time. But of course if you are using something with a wireless G card it will only run at the speed, anything else on the network with a wireless N card will run at the N speed. I think.

You can hook up the 360 to N if you use an access point. Basically it'd be an N wireless reciever with an ethernet port on it. So it would go 360 --> ethernet cord --> N access point --> air --> N router. That way the 360 just thinks it is ethernet.

I have the Belkin Pre-N router. I can get 108Mbs over the air because of MIMO.

I have the 360 connected to the router. Since the 36O wireless adapter is only G or A, you can only get a max of 54Mbs. If wired, I think, you can get 100mbs.

The problem is not the LAN speeds, it's your broadband service. The max household that people can get is like 12Mpbs down, and 5Mbs up. All well below your routers speeds max limits.

It should also be noted that the N standard hasn't be completely finalized. So unless you're need some better security, router not working, I would stick with what you have. It can be kind of tricky getting those N routers to work with the 360. It took me a good month of trying to get it with mine.
