Smile What's your Gaming Bio?

In the early 80's, I probably had a normal experience as a kid w/ the occasional exposure to Space Invaders on the original Atari console at a friend's house. When they first got their machine, we (my brother and I) were over there as much as they'd put up with us. But, I don't recall being addicted to 'em by any means. By '86 or '87, my brother got an NES system as a gift, and we mostly played Contra, Mario, and Zelda, but I didn't obsess over it. Of course, Zelda was my favorite.

I got my first Gameboy in 1996, but only had Golf, some racing game, and a Donkey Kong game. I again picked up the Mario series in mid-1996 w/ the Super Nintendo. Even played some more Zelda. That was the last of gaming for me until I was introduced to Halo in 2001, just after the release.

I purchased my first Xbox around May '02, and my second Xbox around Sept '03. I worshiped Halo, like many others, owning a few copies, and making every effort to host MP events at my house, or other locations, including a few conference rooms at a friend's office downtown. (he's the network engineer for them, and made sure his network would accept the Xbox). I got Halo 2 at launch, which became a staple to connect over Xbox Live with many of the fine folks you all know as PGL members, through the weekly Friday Night FragFest events. That all continued w/ the purchase of the Xbox 360, and the introduction of the lastest in HD games. I'm now thoroughly addicted to gaming as often as I can squeeze it into my weekly schedule.

So, what's your history w/ gaming?

I don't think I'm game addict, the game are addicted to me, LOL. I think Xbox catagory of recreational is about right. I will spend hours playing them, but there are plenty of things I would rather do too.

My gaming experience started when I was very young, probably around six, with games on the Atari 600 (played at a friend's house), Cammador Vic20, and arcades. Later my uncle gave me his Atari 2600 (I think around age 10), and my grandmother purchased one because I spent so many summers at her home. Man, the atari had some good games, and even more really bad games, LOL.

Later my parents got an Commador64. I don't remember many games on that computer, but I remember playing this game caveman game where you jumped over items (the caveman was from a comic strip); I think I still have the cataridge.

Then I got a Sega Master System the holiday season it became available. I really liked that system. Wish I had kept it, but all well. I played the NES at friends' homes. I got an NES about year and half later. I really liked Zelda, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, SuperMario 3 (even though I never owned it).

I kind got out of gaming at that point because I wasn't willing to pay $200 for a system with one controller and no game. In 1991, I did get a SNES after going to a friends house with it and was totally blown away by the ghost house in Super Mario Brothers for the SNES. Probably my all time favorite game was Zelda: A Link to the Past was my second game on that system.

After that my gaming was kind of spotty because I was the only person of my friends that enjoyed playing the games who was willing to buy the systems. When I got to college, then I ended up with buddies who were really into video games and played them quite a bit. In our apartment, we had the NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis with the Sega CD, Saga Saturn, and part of the year, a Playstation1. I usually just played games on the PC like The Dig, Interstate76, and so forth, and a lot of demos.

I got back into gaming, at least to the point I am now, when Zelda64 came out. That was some sweet gaming. I later got a N64 when Zora's mask came out.

In 1999, I got the Dreamcast. NFL2K and NBA2K, those games were so amazing for their time. Shenmue was a good game too; I don't think the US appreciated it for what it was.

I got the Gamecube about two weeks after launch. My buddy worked at Target and found one in the back that had a hole in the box. I knew they would come out with a Zelda for it, so I had to get it.

I got an Xbox in 2003, I think. It came out with the bundle system with SegaGT and Jet Grind Radio Future. Some nice games on that system. I didn't finish any games on that system. Heck, I hadn't finished any games since Dreamcast; untill recently with the 360.

I would have gamed more, but when I came from college, none of my friends around here played them. I would bring a system to their house, but it was more to watch me play; kind of boring.

I got the 360 in March 2006; it was at costco. I had actually went there to pick up some office supplies I think. Just a nice bonus, LOL. Now there is XBL, and it's kind of nice to be playing games with people again, instead of only about four times a year, LOL.

So, no I'm addicted...just an annoying distraction to most ladies I know, LOL, and yes, I spend way too much money them....but it's still fun.

Played as a kid growing up. My brothers and I started on IBM PCjr's back in the late '70s/early '80s. Then we moved to intellivision and nintendo. We played a bunch as kids, but not to an unhealthy level. We pretty much always preferred to be outside, and played when it rained, was too hot, etc. We wrote a computer program to kep track of who was best in the neighborhood and had a challenge system with a ladder for each game.

I had a PS1 as a young adult, but again I didn't play obsessively really. A few select games I played a lot of. I mixed the console with computer games. My two brothers and I used to play a lot of Links golf on the computer (sending finished files back and forth by mail), as well as Star Wars X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter (that whole series) online.

We would play console and computer games late into the night whenever we'd get together for breaks or holidays from school or work. It kinda became a tradition and when xbox live came out it was the perfect way to do that without having to be in the same room. That lead to playing whenever we could, just to hang out and keep in touch.
