I can see both sides. It's tough to expect a retail workforce with high turnover and generally low pay to know everything about their product lines. On the other hand, consumers who need assistance with a product generally know less than the retailer does. Most can read a card, so it's a little exasperating to have the card read for them. Most assume if you're working in a certain department, you have some knowledge about the product that they don't have.

I personally like to support the brick and mortar stores when I can, and I do get frustrated sometimes with the lack of product knowledge. But I also realize it's tough to blame individual employees in most circumstances. There are a significant number of employees out there, unlike Serren and Nolimit, who could really care less about customer service and really aren't thinking at all when a customer asks a question. If they were, they'd really try to help instead of reading the card. I.E, "this one has a higher resolution, which means you can print out larger pictures without compromising quality", or "X brand has a better reputation than y brand" instead of simply regurgitating the card's info. I'm sure that you guys do /did whatever you can to really help customers. Sounds to me like Ono's experience came with employees who didn't give a rip.

Commission has lots to do with discussion also. Since Best Buy no longer pays commission, the employees have even less desire to learn. A car sales person better know about a $30,000 car he is selling. Besides making the lot look bad, he or she is working hard to earn the commission.

Same thing goes with a Magnolia or other higher end audio video store. These people are usually motivated by money, thus they actually may know what they are talking about. Of course they often come off as know-it-alls!

Thats the thing if he would of said "Hey this is new, or Hey I really don't know much about them" That would be fine. Like I said in my first post, I totally understand the tech field is constantly changing and its almost impossible to keep up with it, but be honest, the kid basically said nothing just picked up the card and read this has this and that one has that, even when I asked if one was better at certain things than others. I have no problem with people being honest with me, just don't be ignorant. Also I was never rude with the kid, I just said Thank You and went on my way.
