So I can make better use of my "CAT-5 wired" phone jacks, I'm thinking of replacing all my home phones with one of these "single base station" phone systems with multiple handsets. You know, the ones that don't require a phone jack at the remote location? Panasonic, VTech, Motorola, etc, all make 'em. Have any of you used them? What do you recommend?

We've tried two Panasonic systems (one 5.8GHz non DSS and one 2.4 GHz with DSS)-- both had a lot of noise. We currently have the Uniden that was a woot a coupl eof weeks ago (5.8GHz with DSS), and it works well with little interference or background noise. I would strongly recommend that you go with a DSS-based system; DSS is frequency agile, so if it senses interference, it hops to another frequency.

I have a couple different Uniden phones like that and they are great. The latest ones I got free from Sunrocket when I signed up for them. They're great.

I'll definitely be looking at the 5.8ghz versions, as my wireless network is 2.4ghz. Thanks for the tip on the DSS thing.

As a follow-up to this topic, I finally found what I was looking for. I picked up this Uniden TRU-9485 at Sams Club for $129. The sound on this phone is amazingly clear. Of course, I'm upgrading from a 900mhz variety, so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Thanks again for the tips/suggestions.

Glad you found something that works for you. We've been happy with our Uniden that I bought a couple of months ago on Woot.
