PGL Slang

[Wondermonkey]

Between the (basically four) homes most of us have seen, we've had the opportunity to witness many great moments in PGL. Some of the new heads here may not be familiar with some of the slang that is commonly used both on the Boards and on Live. I figured I'd start this thread to give them a heads up. I'll start with one we all know...

Aether- aether [ay-thur] - verb, slang

• slang phrase used for in-game self-termination via a hand tossed explosive device. Bobby aethered himself several times during the match, sometimes at the expense of nearby teammates.

[Origin: 2006; (v.) Aetherhole comically took several tries to familiarize himself with the subleties of grenades in COD3.]

Keezy- keez·y [keez-ee] - verb, slang

• to completely change a subject of a thread; to derail; differing from the main topic; not relevant

Monkeyjam- mon·key jam [muhng-kee jam] - verb, slang

• The act of occupying a couch other than your own for more than 7 days; Squatting in someone's house and wearing orange for 75% of the time on more than 80% of your body. Oh man, I totally monkeyjammed all weekend, I can't wait to get home and shower.

Picklish- [pik-lish] - slang

• 1. (in English and some other languages) speech and writing characterized by the complete lack of punctuation, capitalization, or coherent sentence structure, coined by PGL member PickleL7.

• 2. an auxiliary language that has come into existence through the attempts by the speakers of two different languages to communicate and that is primarily a simplified form of one of the languages, with a reduced vocabulary and grammatical structure and considerable variation in pronunciation.

• example: my nick name as a kid was dill pickle cuz my first name is dylan so they called me dill pickle now im just pickle most girls called me dilldoe so if you know what L7 is then thats why im pickleL7 not dilldoepickle.No joke all my friends still call me pickle

Press X!- press·x [pres-x] - phrase, slang

• slang phrase often shouted in frustration at a n00b, or new player to a game or match. Come on, press x! We have to win this round!

[Origin: 2005; (n.) Zoom-Zoom's guest did not know how to pick up the ball during a Halo 2 Barney Ball match. "Press X" was shouted 156 times by 16 different people, suspiciously resulting in an overload of Bungie's stat site for 5 days]

Pulling a Deth- pulling·a·deth - phrase, slang

• Being unable to devote the time, energy, and respect to your fellow gamers and eventually falling asleep in-game; Alternate: Can also be used when whining about a certain weapon or map. Oh man, do you hear him snoring into the mic? He just pulled a deth. Alternate: Peench is pulling a Deth and doesn't want to play shotguns on Midship

[Origin: 2005; DethMetalXtreme, one of the founding fathers of FNFF eventually killed by Chuck Norris, worked long hours on his grandpappy's goat farm. The little time he had to devote to gaming usually ensured that he would fall asleep during a match, as well as be a grumpy mofo]
