Well, we are still here after today's test. All the upcoming experiments may actually lead to the production of a REAL Spartan laser that Ep can wield from atop Mt Fuji and hold off the Covenant after we rip that wormhole open.

The prospect of re-creating the creation of the universe, or even the Big Bang, on an infinitely smaller scale, is just astounding. I wish I had a brain even close to the size as these folks!

In sadder news, the Collider was not without its casualties.

Fearing end of the world, girl commits suicide in MP

PTI | September 10, 2008 | 14:57 IST

A 16-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh allegedly committed suicide after watching news about the possibility of the end of earth, following the atom-smasher experiment in Geneva that began on Wednesday.

Chhaya, a resident of Sarangpur town in Rajgarh district, consumed sulphos tablets (an insecticide) on Tuesday, her parents said.

The girl was rushed to Indore's MY Hospital, where she passed away on Wednesday.

Her parents told reporters that she had been watching reports about the world's biggest atom-smasher experiment in Geneva on news channels since the last two days, following which she got restless and ended her life.

The police have registered a case in this regard and they are investigating the matter.

The experiment is being carried out to recreate the birth of the Universe and unlock its secrets. Scientists have rubbished reports of threat to the planet due to the experiment.

That's sad about the girl. Amazing what people, especially unstable people, read into things they see on the news.

Not to make light of what happened, but I was totally bamboozled reading that report --
  • girl in Madhya Pradesh
  • a resident of Sarangpur town
  • in Rajgarh district
  • was rushed to Indore's MY Hospital...
Ok, still looking for some region, even, that I recognize... I guess when you live next door to the hobbits, it's pretty easy to believe the world's going to come crashing to an abrupt end when you turn on the telly.

I was more surprised she had a television. I think it's clear that, without help, she would have killed herself over something.

If she had just reached out to me, I could have sent her this link:

Has the Large Hadron Collider destroyed the world yet?

Yes, but do you have to use the name of the link?

This picture below is a troubling development... It can't be good foreshadowing.

So the world hasn't ended yet, but really if we have a choice of the world ending from global warming or creating a black hole on the surface of the earth, I'm going to vote for the black hole every time.

Waiting on Crip to update...did they make any advancements today that could help the world?

If not at least we have GoW2, Fallout 3 & Left 4 Dead to rely on.

I think those three things were byproducts of the Medium Hadron Collider. How sweet they are!
