I'm sure you have read the stories about how Sony made the PS2 failures right and reimbursed people for their failed systems, right? Oh wait, probably not because they didn't.
I'm giving MS credit for adjusting their strategies and how they reacted to the problem. Most companies don't care enough and simply stand by their printed warranties and have the gameplan of "screw the consumer." MS didn't do that and they deserve credit for it.
How many other gaming consoles have 1 year warranties? I have never looked. For that matter, how many other bleeding edge technology items have 1 year warranties? Most are 90 days. That's standard. The fact that MS is going above and beyond that deserves to be recognized.

| I have to agree more with peench. As many problems as I have had, almost every single time I got my system back within a week. I don't know of any other company that would do that.
In contrast, when I took my AV Receiver in for a simple firmware upgrade, you know how long it took? Over two months. So their repair turnover time is incredibly fast compared to the rest of the experiences I've had!

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Ohio | lax, you can thank MS for the new 1 year warranties on those systems. If MS didnt launch a year before hand, they'd all have the 90 day and nothing would have changed. So next time you see a pic of Uncle Bill on google, say "Hey thanks man, thanks for raising the bar, you rock!"
Im not going to get into a pissing match about it. MS did what was necessary to satisfy customers, period. Nintendo has never had problems, and Sony surely has never lent a helping hand in the past. You don't compare the warranty of something that launched 12 months ago to something that launched 4 days ago.
Jon you returned 5 consoles correct?
Add the costs of all 5 and please post in here, Thanks.
I dont know anyone locally that had to contact MS and go thru the ordeal but those I do know on forums didnt spend a single penny except to pay for gas to get to the local UPS hub.
Peench is 100% right. I wouldnt have worded it so casually so the *sigh* is all I could muster, lol. Thanks Peench!
Sony has a 1 year now because they wont have the resources to change battle plans 6 to 12 months down the road. I hope it becomes a standard for everyones sake.
I hope we get the xbox 720 next year so we can start this discussion all over again! *Did i just type that?!*

| Its good to see Sony learned from MS and appears to have raised the bar in terms of warranty. Hopefully other electronics manufacturers will follow suit. I guess we'll see within the next year how soon Sony replaces consoles - or if they fail.
Thanks for the info Lax - I didn't know what the warranty was for the PS3 and still don't for the Wii. If its a year, hats off to Sony and Nintendo!

| for the record, the amount I spent for all 5 returned units and their replacements was $0.00
I didn't even buy the extended warranty. So that was what they did to take care of me, simply by me having faith in them and purchasing their product, which is more than all the other companies I've dealt with have done for me, maybe even combined.

| hahaha too true... too true...
Spoony, I am really appreciative they were as helpful as they were.
Any other company has brushed me off even after my first attempt. MS were always very courteous when I call them.
