Attention Pacific Northwest PGLers!
So I'm planning a backpacking trip in late August with a friend of mine (The weekend before PAX). We're still early in the planning stages, but we're thinking about a trip to a national park in WA. I've never been to the Pacific Northwest and it sounds amazing. Trouble is, I have no knowledge of the region. There are a few PGLers who are from Washington state. How many of you have been to one of the big parks (Olympia, Ranier or Cascades). Any recommendations or tips? 'ppreciate it!

Good aerobic shape overall, but I've never done a backpacking trip before. My friend has done one. We have all the gear we need. I'm think we're looking at a max 8-10 miles/ day and we are looking for a 3 day, 2 night trip.
I really appreciate it, dmiller.

Man I wish I had more time in August. A day hiking anywhere out there would be awesome. I really want to go to Crater Lake someday.

I've been flipping through those sites a bit, dmill. But I've just scratched the surface. On that one you sent I found this:
Quote:
NOTE: The park received heavy snows this winter and spring with approximately 1000 inches of snow at this point. ...
As of June 30, three parties have attempted the Wonderland Trail and failed after one day.

Yep the snows where very heavy this year but I would suspect by Aug it should be pretty good. We have been in the 90's last week or so. Snow pack is melting fast. I'll ask around, I know several packers at work. I have only done day hikes...

Maybe you can Thornes to chime in. He's in WA. If he doesn't, threaten to give his FedEx truck a flat tire.
