Gaming and parenting.

So the main reason I started this thread is to get some ideas on good games to play with my kids, 12 and 8. When I look back on it I think the one reason I'm so hooked on games is probably my dad. We used to go down to the local arcade when I was a kid and he'd rock some old school Galaga. It was a pretty good way to connect with my dad at the time.

My kids and I will hit the Rock Band/Guitar Hero once in a while, but they get bored with it pretty quick. I tried to do the pokemon thing with my 8 year old but I just can't get into it for long. It's his B-day at the end of the month and we've already picked him up a red DS but will probably be getting a Wii for the family as well.
Any suggestions or thoughts on games, (kid friendly), would be nice. Thanks.

I don't think there was anything bad in The Simpsons. It was a really easy game too. I think kids would like it.

At 12 you son/daughter may not be into goofyness/Legos, but the Lego Star Wars games (and I'm assuming Lego Indy Jones and the upcoming Lego Batman) are fun as heck, especially co-op on the same screen, and require no skill.

I'd also try Marvel:Ultimate Alliance. Good fun co-op.

Prophet I play mario cart for the Wii with my niece who is 5 and she loves it. We also play the bumper cars game from burger king. She is only 5 but with me playing with her she is getting much better and even more into some other games now, hell we were in bestbuy yesterday and she asked for her own pink 360 controller, it was the best day of my life.

Levi, 8, loves the Lego games. Brittani, 12, is more about the puzzle and Mario Party type games. I'll be picking up the Mario Party and Kart on Wii as well as the new Blox(?) game. Can't wait! Thanks for the ideas.

The Lego games for sure.... I would say almost any Wii "E" rated game.

My 12 year old and I love the party style games and we've been known to crash it up in Burnout. Don't tell anyone but she makes me play Sonic on the 360 as well. In the end someone already said it but Mario Kart is the king.

I would say boom blocks should be cool..I am going to get boom blocks because I think my wife and son are getting burnt out on Bowling..i don't know if you've played zelda phantom hourglass on the wii but I've played it on the ds and it's great. Plenty of puzzles for your daughter if she's into those types of games. My 3 year old loves GTA IV and Manhunt....jk take it easy.....

My son is nine and he says: Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter games, Burnout Paradise, Tony Hawk games, Lego Star Wars games, and The Simpsons game are good ones.

Of course, I don't have an issue with him playing these; you might.

As a parent of a 6 year old, I'm really enjoying playing Lego Indiana Jones with him. He recently discovered Indiana Jones because it was on the cereal boxes for a good two months leading up to the release of the movie. He loved the new one, so I decided to pick it up for him and I. It's great fun.

King - let me know how Boom Blocks is. My 6 (7 next month) year old apparently told my wife he wanted me to pick it up. I haven't even heard anything about it yet. Man am I out of the loop!
