I guess I'm an absorber, because I don't see what was wrong with that DQ commercial.

I didn't really care for the commercial (I thought it was tacky). I can see where people would interpret it as a bash on women in general. I think the reason I was semi-offended by it is that my perception is that if a girl that young is that manipulative, someone has taught her to be that way and use her sexuality to get what she wants. It's not something that comes natural.

As the sexist pig that I am, I honestly wish my wife would use sex to get what she wants from me more often. But that's within a very healthy marriage relationship, and really it would only be in my mind anyway. I'm sick that way.

You could certainly say that the commercial is over-analyzed, but I just really didn't care for it. Not sure if it's for the same reason Wonder was indicating, though. I guess I don't interpret that commercial as implying that women have to use sexuality to get what they want... only that they can if they want. Nevertheless, I still found it kinda offensive.

I guess. My interpretation is that it was meant as a joke, and not to be analyzed at all. The mere fact that the subplot of her getting ice cream from a boy by flirting with him had nothing to do with DQ's new product showed that. I didn't get the point of it, however... from a marketing standpoint I mean. She was about to get one from her mom anyway, so it made no difference and seemed like the subplot of the commercial would have had a better effect if her mom was going to make her share one rather than offer to buy her her own.

Now maybe we're analyzing too much.

That's a whole different topic, and one that I support fully.

That commercial was in no way a "test" to see how perceptive you are, or anything remotely close to that. It was simply one way to show you how advertisers play on gender stereotypes, and most of the time to the disadvantage of the minority. There are probably thousands on the internetz right now, that's simply one that plays on the "women can flirt and get whatever they want" model of society.

It does go both ways though. I'm sick and tired of seeing the "men are idiots who can't do anything" commercials that so many electronics companies feel the need to perpetuate.

This was in Times Square over the weekend, bigger than life.

I don't know what in the frak it's selling, but it just felt wrong.

Hmmm Lets see, My answer to the question of what tyoe of message this ad portrays, if i was in my sociology class right now would have been; Girls who wear Dolce would be so sexy that Men (plus some men who look soo gorgeous, that they almost look like a women, The one on the far left ) will want to hold you down and make love to you, thus making you feel wanted. Either that or im gonna smell it, Track down the broad that has it on and man handle her the way she wanted me too. (Maybe im sick too)

Ads are freakin mind games, most of them are soooo stupid, but are somehow still affective. I mean if you have a food commercial, all you really got to do to sell me is make it look good while the steak glistens and throw a "Mouth watering" statement in there with a low price tag and im sold. But then again half naked chicks are cool.

As for the DQ commercial I think it can possibly send the wrong message to yourng children and that little girl is a whore.

And as for the DC ad maybe its kinda like they dont only make clothes for women anymore, or they support gang rape.

Well, since everyone knows that all male models are gay, they're clearly laying down the smack on this female model, telling that girlfriend she ain't got what it takes to make it in this industry...

Disclaimer: ZoomZoom71 knows that not all male models are gay, because his wife has made him watch the "Make Me A Supermodel" reality show on Bravo.

Gawd everyone is so touchy feely with being offended these days, and put way too much thought into things.

That DQ commercial for example: if the boy then walked up to the girl & backhanded her or said she owed him a banana split or something, then yeah... But come on - we as a society gotta get past the 'don't do anything to offend me' bs.
