| Coming to CA Soon!! Yo, for all the Cali folk on here, I just found out last night that I'm coming to San Diego to visit a friend who moved from NC. I think I am coming the first week in March. I have never been and was wondering what all there is to do. I am sure he prolly knows some, but he has not been out there that long himself. My girlfriend wants to goto the zoo, but that will only be for one out of seven days and I think we are goin to LA for a day (2 out of 7 days). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. | |

You do need a passport. I went to Canada just before 1/1/07, and I believe they had signs up stating you needed one after that day. I am pretty sure it is required now if that was the date. I want to go, but I don't think I can get a passport in time now. Thanks for the reply tho.

| Peench is in LA he might know more than me, but i say go eat at Roscoes Chicken and Waffles, Go down to Spearhead Rhinos (not to be confused with Rhino Chaser from PGL) and hit up the SkyBar or clubs if you like those things. Im in the Bay Area so its a bit different out here, but i know LA has many places. | |

| I'm in San Diego. There's loads to do and it all depends on the kinda stuff you like to do/see. The Zoo is fun, Sea World is fun, the Wild Animal Park is crazy cool, there's millions of awesome restaurants, the beach, local attractions, Lego land, Flower fields (which should be in crazy bloom around that time)...
For bar hopping, etc, San Diego's Gas Lamp district downtown is pretty hopping most every night. They also have some awesome restaurants down there. Rei do gado is a brazilian steakhouse. It is basically all you can eat and they bring skewers or steak to your table for as long as you can eat them! Awesomeness. Bandar is also downtown there and is a Persian restaurant. OMG, their Filet mignon skewer (shish kabob) is freaking amazing! Also there are loads of hole in the wall messican restaurants all over the place that you can hit up. The key is to see if there are Mexicans in the restaurant. If there are, the food is likely good.
There's also PB (Pacific Beach) or OB (Ocean Beach) if you like the bar hopping/beach scene more. It is quite a bit different than downtown and probably a little younger crowd b/c it is closer to the beach.
For museums and such Balboa Park is amazing! I recently saw the Dead Sea Scrolls there. I think they'll be gone by March, but there are quite a few museums in the Park and even just walking around there is cool.
I can probably throw out some additional suggestions if you want to shoot back the kind of stuff you all are interested in doing.

| I've been to the hockey in San Diego. That was fun. They're were playing the bitter rivals, Bakersfield. My buddies and I watched a 10 minute fight that got two players ejected. Good Family fun.
Balboa Park has a lot of stuff there. They have a great model railroad museum. I checked it out. They have a huge N scale layout that like 80' x 20' and is 95% handlaid track at code 40. There is another HO that's gigantic. The O scale was nice too. I think it's like $7. It's across turn-a-bout from the museum Peench spoke of earlier.
If you're into religion, there is the institution of creationist research out in Sante (dessert). I'm not religious, but that place is a trip.
I haven't been to it, but it's not far from Peench, so he may be able to comment, there is Lego Land in Carlsbed/Oceanside as well.
There is usually something going on at one of the schools like UCSD, UCD and SDSU. That's usually around the time UCSD does thier big Winter Concert thing for students. Non students can go, but you have to pay; I'm guessing it's about $20.

The guys playing can turn anything into piano music. There is much drinking and merriment to be had there.

| Thanks for all the info you guys gave about my upcoming trip. I am excited to see the West Coast for the first time. I wrote down everything you guys suggested and I will run by my friend and others going with me and see what all we will be able to do. I have heard good things about Lego Land (will probably do that) and the Balboa Park (diddo).
As I said in another post, we will goto LA for a day just to see what it is like. For the most part, at least in Charlotte, I like to go out to bars occasionally, goto a lot of NBA (Bobcats) and Panthers (NFL) games (I'm actually a 49ers fan). We have a Discovery Place, in downtown Cha that had a show called Body Worlds and the Dead Sea Scrolls that was fun. I think it is kinda like the Balboa Park that Peench and livekeiiy described.
Thanks again for the posts. For all the locals there on PGL, maybe we can get up and have a drink or two or twelve......

| Mortis - keep me posted as to when you are coming out. If I am in town and don't have a meeting whatever nights you are here, I'm down for hanging out or grabbing a bite to eat or whatnot! | |
