Hidden Fronts Free on Monday

Nice! Beginning Monday, the Hidden Fronts Map Pack will join the Annex gametype and Multiplayer Map Pack 1 as another piece of free downloadable content for Gears of War.

With nearly 500,000 downloads to date, the “Gears of War®” Hidden Fronts Map Pack has become the No. 1 piece of premium downloadable content on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

“Gears of War” has sold more than 4 million copies worldwide, and continues to hold the title of most popular Xbox 360 game on Xbox LIVE, as “Gears of War” recorded the most number of unique players among all Xbox 360 games in August 2007, as well as the highest cumulative number of hours played by Xbox LIVE members.

In the Hidden Fronts Map Pack, players can clash for control of four dynamic areas, including Bullet Marsh, Garden, Process, and Subway:
  • Bullet Marsh
In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
  • Garden
This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
  • Process
Fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.
  • Subway
Timgad 's Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.

I was waiting for the free mark before I threw Gears back in. Now I can. Sweet.

the single player rocked, i played the whole game co/op with a buddy, it was a blast, set a standard for co/op play, but just something about the vs wasnt doing it for me, and i honestly think the online transformed people, kinda like how there are the "halo fanboys" the "gear heads" really seem to be a different breed of people, the hardcore gear heads really seem like a-holes to me, lots of smack talkin and what not

Agreed that the Gears community s probably worse than any online game that I've played, however I just muted and avoided just about everyone and actually found some cool people.

My rep suffered alot though and I barely wore my headset in that game.

GOW was fun online when it first came out. It is still fun when playing with friends but the entire gameplay has become something entirely different than what the developers intended. Remember back to when CliffyB talked about how they wanted a game where cover was actually important. Where it was like paintball and where you had to use cover and then fire and then cover your friends, etc.

Well games online nowadays are nothing more than rushing people with the shotgun. There's really no cover and the maps are too small to engage in any long term tactics. The flavor of the game has changed entirely. I'll still download the maps and play, but the game itself (or at least how it is played online) is entirely different than what it started out to be and IMO how it was intended to be played. Maybe if they nerfed the shotty the gameplay might get back to how it should be...

I agree with everything you said... did we have a conversation about this before.

Now that you can no longer play ranked with your friends it makes the game nothing but run and gun. It was loads of fun when you had a team that you played with all the time and set up strategies together, at least that is how I played. I feel if they would return the shotgun and the matchmaking to the way they were then this game could still be great.
