Gears Achievement Changes?
Another rumor, but if they don't let you bring your friends into ranked matches, I'm down for this change.
Quote:
US video game magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly is notorious for its monthly rumours. Each and every month they publish rumours and some of these set the pulses of many gamers racing. According to 1UP, this month’s edition of EGM rumours that Gears of War will be receiving some downloadable content and changes to the online achievements.
While 1UP didn’t say much, they mention EGM is claiming downloadable content for Gears of War is coming soon. While it wasn’t stated what type of DLC this might be exactly, one would hope for additional maps for use in multiplayer games. The other thing that they didn’t mention is the dreaded issue of having to pay. Will Epic give gamers more free DLC, or was the map pack released back in January the only free addition to Gears of War?
The second Gears of War related rumour concerns the online achievements of the game. According to this month’s EGM, Epic Games want to change the online achievements to remove the ranked games requirement. This would mean that you would be able to earn all the achievements in player matches with your friends.
While the downloadable content seems like a good idea and I’d love to see it happen, I’m not so sure I like the idea of Epic changing the achievements. Apart from the fact that making them available in ranked games only is more challenging, it wouldn’t be fair to those who already earned the achievements such as Seriously … in which you have to kill a total 10,000 people in ranked matches fairly.

I would love for this change to take place. I hate ranked achievements in games.

I hate being punished with no achievements just because I want to play with my friends. Ranked rooms suck

Cujo you never play this game, I thought you hated it? Or are you just refering to all games in general?

Games in general. I never liked the ranked requirement in this or COD or any other game.

I don't mind the mind the complete a ranked game achievements or something simple with a very limited time with the "other" gamers.
I really like the idea of being able to do online achievements without the ranked matches. It's more fun to do with friends. They don't get all winey about being killed. Plus, there is less worry about playing with the modders who can't shut up about how "good" they are.

I also agree that forcing people to play ranked matches for achievements is pretty bad. It should be just about experiencing the game online with other people, rather than needing to be put into matches against them. I am curious on how it would work for those that have far surpassed the requirements on player match for these achievements. Would they just log on and get the award?
It would make it a bit easier to get these achievements since hosts could swap around the weapon types so that it was say… All boomshot.
As for the additional content for download, I was not terribly impressed with the additional two maps. Needing to pay for something like them would have been a kick in the teeth, though I would have just asked for them for free.

I can't stand ranked matches either. I know they're trying to protect the "integrity" of the points scale, but get real. Who cares? The guys that are that into the points things are cheating anyway (and before anyone gets their hackles up, I mean the guys with 100,000 points and such, the leaders... not anyone here at the site with our more realistic "I actually have a life" 10-20,000 point totals.)
Let us get the points in player matches. Heck, if they want separate leaderboards for ranked play, give it to 'em.

Exactly. The ranked match achievements aren't for us anyway, and they're not challenging, they're annoying. What's challenging about competing against point whores in ranked play when they stack teams and play 19 rounds so their idiotic friends can find their un-named hosted match? The real challenge is trying to mute them and continue a team based game.
I'm all for the player match achievements. I think it's why I loved Crackdown and Oblivion so much, no stupid ranked online points.

That should be an achievement: Mute 4 ten-year olds in a single online match: 40 pts!
