Interestingly enough, my 360 runs an average temp of 94f. My first one, however, ran extremely hot. Something I'd like to see is the temperature comparison of the power bricks. The one on the 360 is ridiculously hot.

Mr. Cool - that's an interesting question. I don't remember from when I set them up, but I don't recall the PS3 or Wii having a power brick... I'm probably totally wrong.

Yeah Name, I thought it was weird. The Wii actually ran hotter when it was "off" (standby) than when it was on. There's still some activity going on apparently and without the fans on, it must get hotter.

Ah! You're right. I remember it now. It is hidden away behind my center channel. Hahah! Can the power draw of the two systems be that different that the size of the brick has to be that different?

theres a lot more hardware in the 360, i would expect it to be bigger but not as big as it is, it almost looks like it would serve as a backup psu heh, remember the consoles back in the day that didnt have more than a bulky plug? i hate the power bricks of today!

Yeah, good point. How can certain laptops for example not have any power brick and others have a big ole beasty one? Is it just engineering? That never made any sense to me.

probably just all depends on what technology they use, i think the new big thing in electronics is solid state capacitors, not sure if that has any impact on size or heat or if they are just longer lasting

My ps3 puts out much more heat then my 360. But, like has been mentioned, the 360 has an external power supply, where the PS3's is inside.

I know, in the Gamestop I work at, our PS3 gives us a lot of trouble in the case. The Wii, 360, and the PS3 are all locked in a plexiglass case, and only the PS3 has heat issues. The funny part is that the PS3 case is the only one with extra fans in the case to remove the heat. Standing next to that display is like standing next to a space heater, it's horrid.

About the power bricks: I wasn't sure if the PS3 had a power brick since I don't own one. I know the one on the Wii is just as cool as can be. I have the one for my 360 on a special cooling rack I made from some spare computer parts. It's a small cookie cooling rack (metal grate) with four CPU fans mounted underneath with their own power supply. It definitely helps, but it still gets hot.

Extra fans! That's a good idea. I use my Antec Laptop cooler on my 360, but I would imagine the more airflow in and around any of the electronic components in today's gaming consoles is a good idea!

I've been thinking about making another one just for the 360, but mine has the extra heat sink, so there's no heat issues (although I'm getting the RROD lately). If I do make one, I'll have to make a couple and list them on eBay or something.

If you end up making one, I'd like to see it. Post pics here if you can!

Will do. I'll have to post some pictures of the one for the powerbrick as well. It's such a simple design too. It's a few fans attached to the underside of a cookie cooling rack. Total cost is about $3.00. Only because I had most of the components, I just had to buy the rack.
