So are the noise levels lower with newer versions of the consoles?

i just got my 360 replaced... build date was March 2008.
I can't answer in terms of db levels, but to me it's a LOT quieter when the disc isn't spinning now (at startup and in the dash mainly). When the disc spins up, I'd say the difference is less, but it's still a bit quieter. Not scientific at all, but that's what I've observed. Either that, or I've had so much hearing loss from the first version that the 2nd now seems remarkably quiet...

We have the PS3 and the 360, and the 360 is noiser, but for whatever reason, the PS3 gets hotter. Don't ask me why - they have the same amount of ventilation...

Back in Nov '07 I replaced my refurbed 360 that broke again with an elite. I think the build date might be July '07. When I first got the unit I was impressed that it appeared to be quiter than my other unit when there was no disc in. However, the last few months I have noticed that my 360 is now as loud as the others when it's idle.
I have also noticed that sometimes my 360 will not turn on when I turn on my wireless controller. These are likely signs of my elite about to bite the bullet.

My newest console doesn't turn on w/ the controller every now and again either. Very strange. In addition to the noisy DVD drive when I turn the console on or open or close the DVD tray. I'm sure it will die eventually.
