Microsoft reveals the 2008 blockbuster lineup

Microsoft reveals the 2008 blockbuster lineup

May 13, 2008 - Today Microsoft Game Studios (MGS) and industry luminaries from the world's top development studios are on hand to show off the latest features of the year's most in-demand titles. In attendance will be Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski, Lionhead's Peter Molyneux, TECMO/Team NINJA's Tomonobu Itagaki, and Silicon Knights' Denis Dyack.

Gears of War 2 headlines the blockbuster lineup. This year, the visage of Marcus Fenix joins the likes of Ryu Hayabusa, Banjo, vivacious piñatas, cybernetic gods, and a hero with a loyal dog sidekick in the all-star 2008 MGS lineup that promises to make Xbox 360® the console of choice for players everywhere.

Return of Marcus Fenix
Attendees of the MGS San Francisco showcase event can witness the first extended taste of Gears of War® 2, the sequel to the blockbuster third-person tactical action game that sold nearly five million units. Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bleszinski will demonstrate dramatic new gameplay elements and stunning visual effects in a campaign sequence from early in the game—where Marcus Fenix and COG forces engage in pulse-pounding firefights between two Derrick transports, fend off vicious Reaver fly-by attacks and rabid Brumaks—all in the same rollercoaster ride of a level.

As the most anticipated Xbox 360 exclusive title of the 2008 holiday season, Gears of War 2 offers an unforgettable gameplay experience that blends a gripping story with visceral combat on a grand scale.
More Gears of War 2 Game Details.

The Piñatas Are Back
MGS will also crack open Viva Piñata™: Trouble in Paradise, set to appear on store shelves this September. Developed by the creative masterminds at Rare, this sequel to the colorful, sleeper hit builds upon the gameplay of the original and adds innovative twists to the mix. In an effort to help Piñata Central rebuild their computer database of piñatas, send piñatas at full candiosity to parties all around the world while using your creativity and imagination to attract, capture, protect, train, and manage more than 100 newly discovered and existing piñata species.

The Piñatas are ready for new adventures.
An exciting, new "Just for Fun" setting makes getting into the game fast and easy. For the first time, collaborate together on a garden through a rich co-op experience, connect and play with others online via Xbox LIVE® as well as instantly introduce new piñata species to your garden through an innovative new feature utilizing the Xbox LIVE Vision Camera.
More Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise Game Details.

A Bear and a Bird
MGS will also pull back the curtain on another beloved franchise with the triumphant return of Banjo, one of Rare's most successful characters, in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Defying the laws of nature, a bear, a bird, and a backpack team up to embark on another incredible adventure this November. MGS is breaking the rules of traditional platform games by putting the power to invent new abilities for Banjo directly into your hands.

The iconic pair are ready to platform in high definition.
Use your ingenuity to build imaginative vehicles that can be combined with infinite variations, helping Banjo successfully complete missions through multiple terrains. Through exploration, discovering hidden secrets, and solving puzzles to win rewards, you will continually find increasing ways to customize and improve your contraptions, creating an unprecedented level of user-generated content and emergent play for a 3-D adventure game.

These instantly recognizable franchises join the enviable company of Fable® 2, Too Human™, and Ninja Gaiden® II from Team NINJA/TECMO, making Xbox 360 the home of the best blockbuster game experiences this year.

Fable 2

Too Human
Today, MGS and Silicon Knights confirmed that Too Human will be available on August 19 in North America. Too Human is an epic, highly anticipated action game with integrated RPG elements and features a rich storyline with deep character development, both hallmarks of Silicon Knights' legendary tradition of video gamedevelopment. Additionally, Silicon Knights is showcasing for the first time, the title's online cooperative play via Xbox LIVE, allowing you to experience Too Human with friends in a multiplayer setting.

Ninja Gaiden II

I know I want to play at least 4 of those, probably 5... Too Human looks awesome but I was hoping for more than 2 players in co-op!

Is Fallout a M$ game?

Fallout isn't a MS game so it was't part of their press release.

Prophet..I am with you on Fallout and can't wait for it too.

Quo...I was also disappointed about there not being 4 person coop in Too Human. It was originally portrayed as a game that would have 4 player coop. Even though it's only two person I will still pick it up. The games looks great and I am interested in the story. Must be my norwegian heritage in me.

Woo! Glad to know Banjo is actually going to make it out this year, but I guess this confirms Alan Wake won't be

I'm here in Sunny San Francisco for the Xbox 360 Spring Showcase. They initially told me that it started at 8 a.m. so I booked a flight that would get me here in time. After booking my flight I come to find out that the event doesn't actually start for the US people until 1 p.m. So I had some time to kill.

My flight landed at about 8:30 a.m. this morning. After a few conference call emergencies for my daytime job I was about to grab a taxi and head over. Well since I had time I was just meandering about. I chatted with Rhino and he said I could take a BART train out to 24th and Mission and then take a cab from there the 2-4 miles to the event. This didn't sound bad as it would be cheaper and I had time to kill.

I made my way to the BART station and headed off. I played a little more of God of War 2 on the PSP while on the train and got off at my station. Took the escalator up and realized I was smack dab in the middle of the ghetto. Thankfully it was mostly brown so I somewhat fit in. I threw around my best Spanish and tried to blend in. The problem was, I had no idea where the hell I was and there were no taxis in sight. That sucked.

So Rhino shoots me directions. Walk here, turn left, turn right, blah blah. I think to myself, alright, I have time to kill right? So I start hoofing it.

By now I was pretty hungry but it was too early for the awesome ghetto restaurants to be open. I was craving some awesome Mexican grub but nothing was open. I ended up at a Mexican pastry shop and got some pastries that reminded me of growing up. Good stuff.

Since it was sunny the walk wasn't too bad. Of course, lugging around a 50lb bag pretty much sucked. It wasn't until I got about half way to the destination that I realized that I hated Rhino.

We've all seen photos of Lombard street right? Well there are some big freaking hills in San Francisco. Yeah and I was apparently going to be walking all of them. Damn Rhino.

All was not lost as I was able to snag what I hope to be some cool photos of the City and stuff that I saw once I made it to the top of the mountain I had to climb.

I made it to the event early and while they let me in to use the restroom, I haven't been able to get into the event yet.

Thankfully the reason they are limiting access is that they want to ensure a station for everyone. Rather than have people huddled around watching others play, they want to ensure that we all have a chance to play all of the games and that the devs have a chance to walk us through the games themselves.

I've said hello to a few of the media peeps so far that I recognize from past events (Major Nelson, Cliffy B, etc.), but won't get a chance to get heavy into the titles until later this afternoon.

The lunch starts at 1 p.m. and the rest of the stuff starts at 2 I believe and lasts until 6 p.m. After that there is a reception that lasts until 9 p.m. Hopefully I'll have a chance to update you all on my thoughts on these bad boys after I have a chance to play them.

Catch you all later!

There most likely won't ever be a Crackdown sequel, Real Time Worlds is too busy with APB.

No, although that would make the internetz go crazy. APB is still under RTW control, and they are only releasing it on PC next year, with console iterations a "possibility".
