Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Wichita Falls, Texas Age: 25 | Finally bought a DS Lite This weekend, I made the splurge and finally bought myself a DS Lite. I'll be buying another one soon for my wife, but we're waiting on the pink ones to come back into stock.
She made me a deal: If I only bought the DS and one game, I could get it Saturday instead of waiting like we had planned to do.
Sooo... I bought the DS at Best Buy, and The New Super Mario Bros. at Game Stop.
Then, I sold Madden 08 ($22), KOTOR ($2.50), and Guitar Hero 2 ($15) to Game Stop for store credit. Because of some deal they were running (20% added if you sell 3 games, plus an additional 10% if you have a used game card), I had nearly a whopping $60 bucks to spend. So, I bought Mario Kart DS and Zelda: A Link to the Past (GBA). Then I went to a used game store and traded in Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 (NES) for Age of Empires DS, and Deus Ex for Castlevania (GBA).
So, I still ended up getting 5 games, and I'm loving them. So far, most of my time has gone into the New Super Mario Bros. It's a fun game, but unfortunately, for a sidescroller, I haven't really gotten the feeling yet that it's built anything special on Super Mario World from the SNES. In fact, it feels like quite a downgrade from it. It is fun though, and the minigames are quite addicting.
So, outside of New Super Mario Bros, Mario Kart, and Age of Empires, are there any other DS games that I have to have? I know I need Brain Age.. that and Mario Party are next on my list.

All of the GBA and DS Castlevania's are fantastic, especially the DS one, Castlevania DS.
Mario Kart DS is a must.
If you like first-person-shooters, then Metroid Prime: Hunters is a fun Quake-style shooter with online play.
As far as puzzle games go there are a lot:
- Tetris DS
- Meteos
- Puzzle Quest (!)
Sonic RUSH is a great 2D style return to form for Sonic. It's perfect nostalgia. The early levels are easy, and it's got a good progression to punishingly hard at the end.
And of course, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It can be incredibly frustrating at times, but for all, that, it's still a blast and worth playing.
And of course, if you get any of these games, let me know and I'll type up my friggin' friend codes so we can play.

-Picross, Geometry Wars galaxies, Cooking Mama, Phoenix Wright series, Contra 4, Elite Beat Agents, Children of Mana, Club House Games, Wario Ware Touched, Bomberman Land to name a few...
The DS has those quirky, yet innovative, intuitive games that Nintendo is known for. They may not be flashy or inspiring, but are often deeply entertaining and enjoyable. Me love DS!

| Great suggestions up there. I'll throw Bomberman Land Touch either 1 or 2 into the mix. I've played 1, but haven't played 2 yet. 1 was great so I'm hoping 2 will build on it and be great also. | |

Ninja Gaiden is coming at the end of March and it looks absolutely incredible. You get to hold the DS like a book and all of the controls are with the stylus. It looks amazing and the gameplay is lightning-fast.

By the way, thanks for all the responses. I'm definitely interested in picking up The Phantom Hourglass. Metroid Hunters is intriguing, but I'm much more fond of the Metroid sidescrollers. I also have always been a big fan of Bomberman. If I can find some people who share an interest in it and have a DS, I'll pick it up for sure... but I think it's only really fun when you can get a party of people playing.
What I've found that I enjoy the most, is the games that make great use of the touch screen. I really enjoy a lot of the minigames, because they are partial to my playing style with the DS. I tend to pick it up and play for 10-20 minutes at a time, and long games that you have to find save points for are more difficult to get into (however worth it for games like Castlevania, Mario and Metroid).

(I could provide examples such as Zelda or Mario or whatever, but I want to brief and snarky instead. Cheers!)

| Cause - Bomberman land touch is a SP experience. Very different than the normal Bomberman games. But very fun and addicting. | |

I'll definitely add Bomberman to my "get" list. Sounds fun!
