Angry Amazon 1-star "review" full of FAIL

Wow, this is disappointing.

Some guy on Amazon.com put up a 1-star review of our product without actually buying or using it.

The guy just describes a (pretty lame IMO) "do-it-yourself" method for making a set of pads for your drums.

Now, I don't have any problem with do-it-yourself solutions to the horrible noise that Rock Band drums make. Heck, Drumshhh Accessories was started precisely because I:

A) Devised a do-it-myself solution and
B) Figured that people might pay to avoid the hassle of buying the materials, cutting circles, etc.

I also don't have any problem if people use our product and decide they really aren't happy with the result. OK, well, actually I do have a problem with that, but the problem is that I want them to be happy with the product, not that I think they shouldn't express an opinion. Hopefully people like that will come to Drumshhh Accessories first, and let us work with them.

But to have someone who has never used our product put up a 1-star "review" which then drags down the product's average score? That is L-A-M-E lame. If the guy has some burning need to tell other people how they can spend at least $1.00 more for a do-it-yourself mousepad-and-duct-tape mod, why not just comment on someone else's review, and not trash the rating of a product he's never tried?

I wrote to Amazon about it; I doubt there's much they can do. I think their whole "This review was/was not useful to me" system is designed to weed out non-review "reviews" like this. But we'll see.

Hopefully some of our real customers will remember to go back to Amazon and write up a review. I'm confident that real reviews will continue the trend we've seen over the last 7 months of business, which is to say, almost universally positive.

End of rant.

That's weak! You can't please everyone, but if this person never even tried the product, that's ridiculous. I'll log in to Amazon and post a good review for you sir.

Can we give this knob a 1-star review for his product of reviewing? Where does this D-Bag live anyways? I say the closest PGLer goes over and kicks his ass.

I appreciate your sentiment, however if you read my comments in that thread, my objection was the vulgar reference to users of another site, which had been very generous in publishing a review of our product.

Don't bite the hand that feeds and all that...

The Amazon.com guy is certainly entitled to his opinion, and as I mention in my post I would have been fine with him posting a comment to another review stating that opinion. It's the 1-star "review" - which negatively impacts our overall product rating - that triggered my rant.

Sorry for any confusion.

That really sucks man. I would like to think Amazon would be able to wipe out "reviews" from people who admit they didn't even use the product. That's lame.

I would be more mad he did any kind of review without trying the product. If he tried it and didn't like it is one thing, but it's another to bash it without first experience with it.

How believable of review would it be if he was glowing about it without trying it? Is it any different than the bad; granted the review ratings will have impact on recommend products that amazon.com will do and people do see the overall. I know personally, I literally read several post to see what people like, didn't like, and try to see how it would fit my likes, dislikes and needs.

I went to your Amazon page ( HERE )and clicked that his review was not helpful. I hope that helps. You do have two other reviews that are 4 and 5 stars, so I wouldn't worry about it. I always look for a trend in reviews.

Seems there is always a "really bad" review by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Frankly I don't pay attention to those unless there are several.

As a consumer, I would hope that all reviewers, good or bad, had actually tried the product. As a manufacturer I would hope that all bad reviewers had actually tried the product. I will trust that all the good reviews come from ethical, intelligent, beautiful people.

Right now, since we only have a couple of reviews, each review has a fairly significant impact to the overall rating (we dropped from 4.5 to 3.5 stars because of that one review). I'm confident that we'll eventually accumulate enough positive reviews to overcome the few I've-never-actually-used-this-product-but-it-is-teh-suck reviews. Until we do, though, this is irritating.

Thumbs up Amazon CS is full of WIN

An update: Amazon responded to my e-mail and removed the review because it does not follow their guidelines.

I have to say, each time I've contacted Amazon about our products (usually to fine-tune the description), they've responded quickly and more often than not have taken my suggestions. So far they've been very easy to work with.
