20th anniversary of NES Contra...

February 9, 1988...Konami gave American NES gamers a little chunck of gaming bliss...

...Contra.

Yup…for it’s time, there was no tougher challenge on the Tremont grade school gaming circuit. To be a champion at this title meant certain fame on the playground the next day…

Bring in a buddy and you had a spectacle that rivals even the best guitar battles on Guitar Hero III…

This game would and will easily hand you your ass if you don’t know what you’re doing and I love every second of it (as should you if you know what’s good for you).

For those that are simply not interested in picking up a NES in order to play this game (it really has never been re-released on any other system other than an obscure Konami PC collection), hope it will come to the Wii Virtual console soon…

For those who don’t own a Wii or a NES…were you dropped on you head as a child? (just asking…)

All joking aside…this is easily one of the best NES titles ever made and one of the most addicting games to be found on any system anywhere…if you haven’t tried it, do yourself a favor and try to get a copy, they’re easy to find.

My little brother and I played the carp out of this game. I remember having the "NES Advantage" controller, which made it much more enjoyable for me. I loved the jump action of the characters. What were they, triple/quadruple flips? Good stuff!

One of he best things about Contra as well as one of the tougher things to master was the jump/shoot combo. To survive you had to master the art of firing while dodging bullets/enemies in the air. The ability to shoot 360 degrees while doing this helped.

When playing around other people it really made for some good "Oooo...Ahhhh" moments...

You know...if my memory serves me correctly...this was the first game I ever rented. It was during my 5th grade school year. I clearly remember being confused between renting Contra or Castlevania II...

This is awesome... I love this game! I dont have it in my collection, but I have Super Contra 3: Alien Wars, and I still have a blast playing it every once in a while. It's one of the few games I pull my SNES out for.

The original (NES) Contra has been on my list of games to find and add to my collection for a while now. Great game!
