Here's the idea real quick:
We split into two teams, let's say Red vs. Blue just for grins. Each team has 20-30 players.
Then, those teams split into two squads (Red A, Red B, etc.) We then battle for control of two different maps (fronts) at once. For example Red A vs. Blue A on Map 1, Red B vs. Blue B on Map 2.
There are nine maps. Each team has four maps to start the war. When you lose a battle on a map, the other team gains control over it.
Here's the trick: Allocate your resources (players) however you want, but the other team can too. If you load up one team to win a map, you're likely to lose the other battle. When one team controls the whole war map, the war is over. It's LobbyWar I (LW I).
If we get the format straight, I'll start a thread for a signup sheet. Then we'll select team "Generals" and have a draft.
Ideas, comments? I can try to come up with a war map this weekend sometime. I don't even know the map names right now.

I'll produce something better when the idea firms up a bit. It's basically like a "Risk" map. Each circle is a COD3 Map. If you control a circle, you get to host there, etc. To win the war, the goal is to control all of the circles.
Based on what I saw last night, we don't have enough peeps yet in COD3 to do this. That is, unless we want to take on another site sometime. To do this with COD3, we would really have to get between 30 and 40 people online playing it on a friday night. That way we could have 8-9 people per squad. I suppose we could go as small as 6-person squads, but the COD3 maps are so big... it'd be much better with bigger numbers.
What we could maybe do to try out the format is do a "War" with Gears of War. Right now plenty of people are playing and four man teams would work out great... we could go 3 squads per side (so we'd need 24 people total). Maybe after this initial Gears Tourney we can mix it up by doing that?

AND the resource management factor could be huge there. With more players, the playing field gets leveled out. If a team stacks one squad, the other will probably suffer...
I agree on last night not being a good test. Time will tell, but I think after Christmas pretty much everyone will have both of these games.
Whaddya think though on trying out the format (smaller version) in Gears intitally? would it work? I'd like to finish off the whole thing in one night if at all possible, which would mean maybe reducing the war map to say 5-7 locations or so rather than 9 or 10...
