| The Departed I was posed with a terribly difficult question this past Friday. Do I go see the man, the myth, Mr. Dane Cook in Employee of the Month or do I check out what Mr. Scorsese is up to in The Departed. Obviously I chose Employee of the Month. Ok I lied.
What an excellent movie. I just wanted to put that first. If you thought of seeing this, stop what you are doing and go watch it. It's not a good movie in that you walking away with the feeling that, say Crash left you with, but it does leave you in awe.
In the movie, you are thrown right into the story of two separate cadets of the Massachusetts State Police. The movie does everything right in painting a picture that depicts these two people as different, yet parallel individuals. Without spoiling anything, there is a crime boss, played by Jack Nicholson who owns the town. The police are always after him, but can never get anything on him. The police have an undercover in the crime boss' crew, and the crime boss has an undercover in the police department. Parallels. This was my first Scorsese film as a mature movie lover, and it was as great as I had heard he was. How it was filmed, the shots, the colors, scene transitions, everything. Martin knew what he was doing. Excellent!
A word to the wise... this movie earns its "R" rating fairly fast, and doesn't stop with it. Very violent, with bad bad language. Definitely not for the kids.
As a Scorsese newb, this movie pwned me! Go check it out!
