New Ultamate Fighting!??

Ok a few mondays ago I saw a new MMA show. It was on my cable channel that is part time ABC or CBS and sometimes something else, it switches throughout the day. Anyway it was in a ring like Pride fighting championship is. The rules were more like pride than UFC in that they did allow knees to the head when a fighter is on the ground which makes the north south possision much more exciting to watch. But there were teams throughout the country. Ken shamrock had a team as did kens brother{cant remember his name but he could beat ken right now} anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has seen it. The station it was on before has regular CBS or ABC programming in that time slot now. Has anyone seen this?

Crap... I forget the name, but I think you are talking about the one that uses teams instead of just fighters. The best team will eventually go up against the second best team through a tourney.

That sounds awesome! One of my problems w/watching UF was always the tweaking of rules to benefit certain styles like Gracie over some of the Kung Fu styles like Hung Ga. W/o the use of tiger claw techniques, sinking elbows and knees, a kung fu practitioner doesn't stand much of a chance against a grappler once the fight goes to the ground. I'll have to check out this new show.

It's called the IFL (International Fight League). It's been around for about a year now. They do have one really crappy rule and that is no elbows. Since they have teams and the teams fight every 6 weeks or so they want to minimize injuries. They also do not allow you to kick a downed fighter. The rules that the UFC uses are being implemented in the same way that boxing does and that is making a standard set of MMA rules. There are 2 different shows for the IFL, one is on Fox Sports and the other is on My Network TV. They both pull from the same events so you will see overlap of the fights between the two shows.

The IFL is about the only MMA organization around, besides some of the really small ones, that the UFC doesn't own. They've already bought WEC and WFA and now Pride. It's certainly the only organization that has any chance of competeting with the UFC, but after watching some of the fights it just can't compare. There are several good fighters in the IFL, but the overall talent level doesn't compare to what both the UFC and Pride bring. The new mega events that the UFC is talking about of pitting their top fighters against Pride are what i'm really excited about. IMO, that has the potential to really propel this sport to a much bigger stage.

That would be awsome. Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Wanderlei "The Axe Murderer" Silva from the pride fighting championship would destroy anyone the UFC has to offer IMO. Those guys are just mean! They would get a lot of penalties points because of soccer kicks or stomps because they are allowed in the pride fighting. I like the pride fighters better.

CroCop is already fighting in the UFC. He signed a contract in December to be an exclusive UFC fighter and has had one fight in the UFC already. Wanderlei Silva will kill everybody because he is the best MMA fighter around. The heavyweight division is certainly the weakest piece for the UFC, but I certainly think in some of the other weight classes the UFC would be tough to beat.

Wanderlei Silva really seems very evil to me, ha ha ha.....really he seems like he really wants to hurt someone very badly when he fights. Its like he dont just want to win he really want to see how bad he can hurt his competition!
