"300" going IMAX

Are the domed ones called Omnimax? We have both near me but I've not been to either.

We have both domed ones and flat ones here, but the flat ones are more prevelant. I'm not sure if the domed ones are called Omnimax or not, but I think they are.

MadB, is your dome IMAX/OMNIMAX at the museum up there?

In my case... the IMAX is actually used for commercial movies and such, while the OMNIMAX usually shows documentaries about volcanoes, spaces and things like this. Then again, it is located at the museum of natural history.

Fun Fact:
The museum was used in a shot of Batman Forever.

Well, it appears that the dome-style places are for Discovery Channel type movie, and the flat ones are for regular movies. I imagine a special camera is needed to film the dome versions. I always feel like I'm going to fall down the stairs at the Dome. Pretty crazy.

I used to volunteer at an IMAX back home. The stairs were impossibly steep. I always felt like I was going to fall down if I looked at the screen while climbing them.

My job was sitting at the top and working the "scrubber" which wiped dust from the film (which was usually every minute or two). A mm spec of dust appears as a 5 foot tall monstronsity on that screen. A lot of fun that job, but I can tell you everything you want to know about Everest.

edit: Also, as previously mentioned, Gates of Fire by Stephen Pressfield is really good.

Acccording to Imax.com I have at least 5 screens within an hours drive. I think all but one is Flat screen
