I don't want to spoil it for anyone who missed it and is trying to catch it later.
Anyone else disappointed in the number of inconsistencies in the first half of the debut of 24 last night? Not to mention the obscene level of suspended disbelief the storyline is starting to require... - Wayne Plamer as President? Gimmee a break. His brother was believable. Him, not so much. He was better in the "weasel" role.
- Everyone's married to one another, or involved with one another. Get real!
- Wayne Palmer indicates that negotiating with the terrorists and handing over Bauer to them is what David Palmer would've done. No.
- Every direct advisor to the president is a weasel... every year. That's getting old.
- No one ever believes Bauer the first time.
- Bauer, on the other hand, can immediately trust a known terrorist who has evidently turned over a new leaf... uh, ok.
I dig 24... the first episode just left me missing something. I hope whatever happens tonight on the second half is huge enough to really shake things up. They've pretty much killed off most of the characters I liked... This show must be incredibly difficult to write for. At least, they're making it look that way!

| quo, as much as I was engaged and enjoyed last night's episode, I agree, there's a lot of stuff that was just a bit way over the top.
I'm really hoping for a lot and I do think it's getting just THAT much harder to write for. They have to put soooooooooooo much into each season, it was only a matter of time when ideas get reused again.

| | PGL Community Vendor | I myself, am a big fan of the show. But, as my girlfriend complains, it is the same thing every season. I don't mind, and I agree with AZRaiderH8r when he says he enjoys watching the Jack Bauer kicking a$$ part, and that is good enough for me.
I did manage to get my hands on the first four episodes last week, and I will tell you the 4th episode is a doozy. I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season. If you enjoy 24, you might want to give Sleeper Cell on Showtime a chance.

| Lord Sam - good call on Sleeper cell. That show is a good time. Very interesting. My wife and I just finished watching the 2nd season last night. | |

There has not been a single season where you didn't need to suspend disbelief, but that's what the show is about.
Jack's wife having amnesia. Uh-huh.
Jack cutting off his partners arm with an axe. Uh-huh.
Jack killing a witness and asking for a hacksaw. Uh-huh.
Jack faking his death and then coming back to life. Uh-huh.
Jack kidnapping the President of the United States. Uh-huh.
This season so far kicks ass because Jack is even MORE unstable than any other season, even following his wife's murder. That's why we watch though, to see this modern day superhero defy death.
You don't mess with this man.

Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Hendersonville, North Carolina Age: 40 | Tonight's episode continued what I was talking about. They killed off a character I liked, AND went contrary to the character's established behavioral pattern/ethical profile. It stunk to see Curtis get written out like that. I will admit, though, that the ending was emotional enough to draw you in a little bit more and hook you into the season. I'm not sure Curtis's demise was necessary to that, but whatever...
I'm having trouble connecting to anyone in the series now except Jack. One of the characters, in particular, I had trouble believing. Not that he's a bad actor, I just can't get rid of a certain picture of him. In the dialogue, he was holding three people captive. He told them, "I don't want to hurt you... but I will, unless you do exactly as I say... Now..."
"take me to White Castle." Or at least that's what I envisioned him saying at the time.
Ahhh, I can't help it. I'm not fooling anyone, I'll watch the whole season.

| You can't take this show seriously anymore. I still enjoy it, just not as much. They have taken the script from season 1, plugged in different characters and have made it over and over. Bauer has the same lines. How many times do they capture a terrorist and then have him break out in some grand escape. How many times have you all heard this,"Tell me what you know or I will kill you"... or how many times is this a "terrorist we need alive" killed in the apprehension. Its getting old, but still better then most shows | |

Pres. Palmer whispers/groans his dialog, but the speakerphone (somewhere in the room) picks up everyword - crystal clear. I'd pay top dollar to have a speakerphone that good in my office. No matter who I talk to they always say "are you in a hole? take me off that dang speakerphone!"
Also, didn't Jack get a big ol' 8" needle jammed in his back while being tortured? Not even a limp...

and i'll take one of those speakerphones too... I thought the exact same thing last night.
What a bizzarro world... a world in which "Chloe" becomes caught in a jealous love triangle... Personally, I think if two guys are going to fight over that psycho chick, they need to be the ones running around in front of the guns and diffusing bombs... they're better off dead!

Who in the world could stand to be with that woman?!? They are better off being dead, they just don't realize it.
On another note, in the first episode when Bill Buchanon and Curtis handcuffed Jack to the grate and left him, I thought it was weird that the terrorists show up and easily unlock the handcuffs.
So, I asked my friend, a police officer, about that and he said that that keys for handcuffs are universal. One key unlocks them all pretty much. I didn't know that.
