To start, I'll post mine, #1 being my absolute favorite of 2006: - 5) Borat: Funniest movie I saw this year. Plus, I saw it while holding hands with Crippler, you can't beat that.
- 4) The Descent: Technically it was released in 2005 but we didn't get it in the States until 2006, so I'm adding it on a technicality. Not since Session 9 has a movie freaked me out so much.
- 3) Casino Royale: Unrefined Bond kicks ass.
- 2) Pan's Labyrinth: Guillermo del Toro never ceases to amaze me. He has a knack of creating a world that never panders to the viewer. Plus, the world he's created here is pretty damn cool.
- 1) Children of Men: A future so incredibly believable it's haunting. Awesome film.
I'm also looking forward to Babel, although I can't add it since I didn't catch it yet.
So what are your best films of 2006?

1. Casino Royale
2. Cars
3. Underworld: Evolution
4. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
5. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
I wouldn't call crap called Borat a movie... I’m embarrassed to say that I spent money to see it. It should be banned from being seen by anyone. Talking about a movie that slams America in about every way possible and yet everyone thinks it is great I just don't understand people in this country anymore.

OH, how could I forget? The Prestige! That's my top movie of this year!!
Ahh, I love Chris Nolan's work!

Talking about a movie that slams America in about every way possible and yet everyone thinks it is great I just don't understand people in this country anymore. | I couldn't disagree more. Borat, rather than being a slam again America in every possible way, was a searing social commentary on the just-barely-contained racist, sexist, xenophobic, anti-semetic, and homophobic tendencies of a portion of the American population. And the reason so many people adore Borat and the movie is because most people feel that those behaviors deserve to be slammed and their proponents deserve to be humilated for perpetuating intolerance, ignorance, and hatred.
It was hardly a sweeping overview of American society but rather an effective - and really, really funny - outsider perspective of how ignorant and hateful some people can be and how easily they will display their hatred when they think they're in agreeable company.
Sacha Baron Cohen's whole purpose with Borat is to shine a light on the pitfalls of a society that prides itself on democracy and tolerance, and in our discomfort and shock, make us laugh at the insanity of it all.
And don't think America is the only one taking the brunt of his guerilla-style comedy; he originated in Britain and will be heading north to Canada soon.
P.S. - Sacha Baron Cohen was the best part of Talladega Nights too

You're much more eloquent than I am, I was just going to say that people that don't think Borat is funny also hate to have their earmuffs touched.

| Spoon, you do know Columbia/Tristar, who put out Underworld:Evolution, is owned by Sony right?
I don't know if I really have a top 5. I honestly can't think of any top 5 movies right now other than Superman Returns.

In fact, it's one of the few movies I've walked out of (could only stand about 45 minutes of it). I understand what Sacha Baron Cohen is doing for comedy though, and I respect him for that. I just don't find his style funny. I'm probably one of the few that hated Da Ali G Show.

When I first saw the previews for the movie I thought man this movie is going to bomb because it looks like a pbs comedy special. Well to my surprise the movie became number one on its first and second week of release which still puzzles me lol.
