I'm really excited about this. I'm a huge Bond fan. I own every movie, including the spoof, Casino Royale, with Woody Allen.
Daniel Craig is easily my second favorite Bond (to Sean Connery of course). He's the first person who, in my opinion, successfully reinvented James Bond's character. Everyone else seemed like they were trying too hard to be Sean Connery, instead of being their own James Bond.
I didn't even like Casino Royale but I have mucho respect for Mr Craig (Road to Perdition) Hopefully this movie works for me because they've got a good Bond just need a good story.
Well, folks, we're back to typical Bond movies. Ridiculous plots, unbelievable villians, girls with stupid names (Strawberry Fields) and implausible resolutions.
So is it a bad movie, no. But it's hardly great. It's in fact one of the better Bond films, but that's not exactly a compliment.
Anyone tried the Video Game yet? I would say it is a definate sleeper that came out at a bad time. Great multiplayer and decent (but very short) single player campaign.
Good will built up from Casino Royale: Squandered.
EP-E-ON!
I was worried because we're usually on the same page with good films, but everyone else I'm on the same page with absolutely loved it, so now I'm a tad conflicted.
That is, I was, until I read these two paragraphs from Harry's review:
Quote:
First off, this whole – "It isn’t as good as Casino Royale" bullshit needs to be put aside. For the very first time, in a realistic story telling manner – we have a linked Bond universe. What happens pre-Credits is important to the film that follows – and now, the epilogue is every bit as important to this film as it is to the next film. We’re in the midst of a completely redefined James Bond, that in many ways doesn’t resemble any of our previous Bonds...
...And yes, I am all over the next Bond. Can not wait. But more so, I can’t wait to watch this one again. The film is the next chapter and I don’t want this to be a trilogy, let’s see how far they can take us, cuz I’m willing to hitch my cart to this version of James Bond for the foreseeable future. They’ve nailed it!
Maybe you were just tired during the showing and a bit cranky? We're going tomorrow, so I'll have to wait until then to pass judgment.
Apparently, this is a love it or hate it film. I've talked to people who consider it the best Bond movie ever, and I've talked to people who hated it with a passion.

Harry Knowles was in the next row up when I saw it at midnight.
You also liked Crystal Skull, so nyeh!
I don't think this is a bad movie, but it is a typical Bond movie. Sure, it links the past movie to this one and I think that's a step in the right direction, but its essentially bridging a really good movie with something standard fare.
We can discuss more after you've seen it, so I can talk about spoilerrific reasons why it's lacking.
But for now, here's a minor spoiler example:
Spoilers:
There's a super-secret organization Mi6 has never heard of, but they all wear little pins with the society's initial on them, Q for "Quantum"
I ended up not being impressed with this movie. It fell far from the great tree that was Casino Royale, just as Epyon said.
Unfortunately, what ruined the movie for me is that it went back to Pierce Brosnan days of Bond, which is action-packed and unrealistic. I'm truly a fan of Sean Connery's Bond, but Daniel Craig in Casino Royale was the first Bond to make me comfortable with someone other than Sean Connery taking the role. He redefined it, and he did it well.
