Well, that's a huge part of the problem. It's societal and it has been for hundreds of years now. I doubt very seriously that the typical radical muslim really knows why he/she wants the Jewish people dead. But they are taught from the time they are 2 yrs old to hate Jews. There are some references to it in the Koran, and those scriptures are used to "legitimize" it. Trace the hate back, and I'd be willing to bet that it comes down to a power play between the Jewish culture and Mohammed, the "founder" of the muslim faith. The Jewish leadership wasn't buying what he was selling (that he was a prophet), so he basically labeled them as evil, and things went downhill from there.
It's so ingrained in the islamic middle eastern culture now that it's just accepted as a part of life. "We hate jews, we kill jews" The idea of going against that grain would be completely foreign to them.
