Movie theaters suck #$?&@!
So my wife convinced me to take our kids to the theater on Sunday afternoon to see the spiderwick chronicles. I really didn't know anything about the movie and wasn't really excited to go but went anyway. Aside from our 3 month old whimpering a bit because she was hungry and my wife having to walk out with her a few times (to avoid ruining the movie for everyone else), the movie itself was pretty good. Some odd stuff, but some cool effects and whatnot.
So the movie reaches the climactic end and rolls into the soft wrap up of some plot/character issues (don't want to post any spoilers) when all of a sudden the following shouting erupts in the theater largely filled with children:
Woman: F*ck you asshole!!
Man: Keep it down
Other Man: HEY!!
Woman: No, f*uck you, you mutherf*cker, calling me a c*nt, f*cking asshole!
Person across the room: Hey, there are kids in here, keep it down!
Woman: F*ck you
Man: Call security
Woman: other random obscenities
So the wrap up of the emotional issues that had surfaced throughout the movie was marred by some obnoxious woman that probably taught the majority of the kids in the theater a whole slew of new cuss words. If I had only been closer to her I would have dumped my entire drink on her cussing ass. I was freaking pissed, but couldn't show it because I didn't want to draw attention to her actions in front of my kids. Thankfully my kids tried to stay focused on the movie. Security came in shortly thereafter and apparently removed her and someone else. My wife saw her leaving and said it was an older woman. What a self-absorbed POS to think only of herself and her anger and to react in such a fashion in a public place that obviously is filled with children.
What a freaking waste of money. There's no sense going to the movies when we have to deal with this crap. I'm glad our home theater is sufficient enough to enjoy movies. Thankfully my kids don't beg to go to the theater - I guess the next movie I take them to will have to be at an early hour to avoid jerks such as this woman. What a shame.

I can understand your anger, I'm the guy who will tell a group to watch their mouth's when they start that crap. I don't think it warrants the anger towards theaters though because its more likely to happen any place else you take them

Yeah, the anger isn't really towards the theater - it was in Imax and looked and SOUNDED awesome! Had the woman not been so many rows behind me I would have gotten in on the yelling, but I didn't want to upset my kids and wanted to focus on the movie. It really pissed me off though. My comments were essentially that movie watching is more fun at home than in the theaters anymore because jerkwads seem to be multiplying and showing up everywhere.

Not that I go to the theater very much for various reasons, but I go less and less. In the last eight years, I've gone the theater about four times for a movie I wanted to see. It's usually because someone else wants to go, and I have nothing better to do. When my theater is setup and calibrated, it's so much more enjoyable and easier.
Not that I would have been worried about the kids learning new words; they're going to learn them at some point. I would have been mad because it would have ruined my enjoyment of the movie. And I'm the guy would get up, go to the lady and tell her to sit down and shut up or take it outside.
What gets on nerves now about theaters is people bring their kids. Not that I had an issue with kids, but if it is not a kids movie or it's late, why are they bring their kids. I remember one time going to an 8pm showing on Sunday to see Star Wars III. People brought toddlers and younger, and to try to keep them quite, they handed them thier cell phones to play games on. So we either got to hear complaining kids or had shining lights phone cell phones to distract us from the movie. What ever happen to babysitters!!!! Nevermind I was already annoyed because they theater had a blown woofer.

Man, that is terrible. Great theater to do it in, I mean, why not in front of kids who legitimately enjoy movies. They are probably the only ones that don't get pissed at people like we do. Way to go chica.
I remember when I saw Back to the Future in the theater with my folks, some dude lit up a cigar and started throwing his wife/girlfriend's purse contents at the screen. She was screaming and freaking out. That was when there were actually ushers though, and everyone was escorted out. I was concerned, being 9, that they didn't like the movie. It bothered me for days.

I couldn't agree more with you, Peench. It's a shame that it happens.
Unfortunately, there are too many pros to watching movies in theaters that my wife and I still have to go regularly. Probably the biggest one is being able to watch a movie when it first comes out, and the hype is still there. Most of the time, if we let it go to DVD, we forget about it and never see it. Another one would be that funny scenes in movies are almost always funnier when you're in a room full of people laughing.
Nothing annoys me more in a theater, however, than someone talking on their cell phone, kids giggling and playing, or someone eating popcorn anywhere near me. The sound of someone eating absolutely drives me crazy when I'm trying to focus on a movie. For those reasons, I often will definitely prefer a home theater.

I usually wait a few weeks before rushing out with the masses. I took my daughter to see Jumper with me on Sunday morning, and there were only like 20 people in the entire theater room.
The opening week is usually the worst. Opening night, the absoulte worst. I dont care how bad I may want to see a movie, I will alaways wait at least until the Monday after opening. Fri and Sat night (date nights) are bad most of the time as well. To many punks dropping digits.
I once yelled at these three mexican-american girls who couldnt care a shit that they just paid almost $10 each and were not even paying a tiny amount of attention to the movie. I asked them nicely to be quite at first, but they didnt care. Plus they were speaking in spanish, and I think dissing me. So I stood up, turned around and yelled "shut the hell up". I scared one of them enough that she asked the others to be quiet I think. I did get an aye yai yai, or however you spell that. I was afraid that I was going to get jumped afterwards, but nothing happened. Oh yeah, I snuck out the back door! lol!

You know, it would never even occur to me to disrupt people around me in a theater. I make sure that I turn off my cell or leave it in the car while at the movies. In the off chance that I buy Skittles or Reese's Pieces, I take a napkin and make a bowl out of it in the cup holder and dump my candy in so that I am not constantly making plastic crinkling noises with the bag. People get more and more inconsiderate every day. It makes me not want to go out in public at all.

2 words my wife and I live by:
MATI NEE
We quit going anytime after 7 cuz thats usually when the theaters are filled with punk kids that cause nothing but distractions. I remember being an obnoxious punk to a certain extent, but kids today are outta control. The cell phone age doesnt help matters either. But we did find there are way less, if any, punk ass kids if you can make it by 1 or 2 in the afternoon, not to mention you get the matinee price.

This movie started at 2:45.
I think you hit the nail on the head Geoff. People in general are simply getting more and more inconsiderate. It is truly unfortunate.
